Effective Microbes (EM) Technology• No chemicals are used in the entire treatment process.• The effluent water is recycled and utilized for irrigating farms and gardens.• The recycled water is free from heavy metals, infectious microbes and other contaminants• The cost efficiency of EM technology compared with activated sludge process is significant.
    3. 3. Effluent Treatment Plant A quantity of seven lakh litres of waste water is generated from the hostels, residences, and canteens every day. There are three ETPs for treatment of this wastewater at the campus which utilizes Effective Microbes (EM) technology. Such an elaborate bio-remediation plant, one which adopts no chemical treatment, is probably, the only one of its kind in India. The water is injected back into the soil through irrigation.
    4. 4. The sewage water is collected from all over the campus andlet into the screening chamber of the Effluent TreatmentPlant.
    5. 5. The filtered sewage water is let into the Equalisation Tank
    6. 6. In the Equalisation Tank, the sewage is mixed well so the oxygen level and Ph ismaintained evenly.
    7. 7. Agitated Aeration Tank – Here the bacteria present in the tanktakes care of the purification process.
    8. 8. Clarifier Tank
    9. 9. The water from the clarifier tank is the let into the dustpurifier.
    10. 10. The manure generated is sent to this tank directly and themanure is used for the plants and trees in Amrita.
