Cloud computing and Green Computing

 1. 1. Cloud Computing Arif Aditiya [email_address]
 2. 2. Definition

Cloud computing is a technology that uses the internet and central remote servers to maintain data and applications. Cloud computing allows consumers and businesses to use applications without installation and access their personal files at any computer with internet access. This technology allows for much more efficient computing by centralizing storage, memory, processing and bandwidth.

 3. 3. Cont.

"A style of computing in which dynamically scalable and often virtualized resources are provided as a service over the Internet“

( Wikipedia Definition of Cloud Computing)

 4. 4. Cont.

Cloud computing is broken down into three segments: " applications ," " platforms ," and “ infrastructure ”.

Each segment serves a different purpose and offers different products for businesses and individuals around the world.

 5. 5. How Cloud Computing Works?
 6. 7. What’s the risk ? (David Robbins, Network World)

http://www.pcworld.com/article/164933/cloud_computing.html?tk=rss_news
 7. 8. Cont.

 8. 9. Green Computing Arif Aditiya [email_address]
 9. 10. Do you think it ?
 10. 11. Definition

Green computing or green IT , refers to environmentally sustainable computing or IT. It is "the study and practice of designing, manufacturing, using, and disposing of computers, servers, and associated subsystems—such as monitors, printers, storage devices, and networking and communications systems—efficiently and effectively with minimal or no impact on the environment. Green IT also strives to achieve economic viability and improved system performance and use, while abiding by our social and ethical responsibilities. Thus, green IT includes the dimensions of environmental sustainability, the economics of energy efficiency, and the total cost of ownership, which includes the cost of disposal and recycling. It is the study and practice of using computing resources efficiently."

San Murugesan, “Harnessing Green IT: Principles and Practices,” IEEE IT Professional , January-February 2008, pp 24-33.
 11. 12. LCD vs CRT

LCD monitors are extremely economical when it comes to power consumption.

A quality LCD monitor nowadays is very much affordable, you certainly get your moneys worth
