    Mostly not…
    Most library books and materials are ordered from Follet
    Follet ordered books come with labels and barcodes already assembled
  • 3. Procedures
    Fast Facts
    Call supervisor’s office for a label request
    Staff retrieves label information
    Label with call number and barcode are made and sent over to school.
    Any creation of MARC record is done there
    It only takes 1 hour to have labels made
    $12 buys 60 labels
    Paid from internal accounts
    What if materials arrive without labels?

    Just the Media Specialist
  • 5. Acquisition functions: order, receipt, workflow
    Supervisor’s office handles ordering and receipts
    Follet is the preferred company
    Order with Lawson number (School District Employee number)
    Complete checklist when materials are delivered
    Send completed checklist to the supervisor
    Company gets paid
  • 6. Subject headings
    Are not not used in this media center but select books are arranged by category:
    Historical Fiction
    Science Fiction
    Young Adult
    Romance
    Sports
    Playaways
    Libros en Espanol
    Classification System 
    ✪ Dewey Decimal

  • 9. Binding comes from outsourced materials
    Stickers, such as tattle strips & barcodes come with outsourced materials
    Media Specialist makes her own genre stickers and uses special tape for adhesive
    paperback books are rarely ordered because they do NOT last

  • 10. Binding tape is used as needed
    Special tape used to restore books & materials that are falling apart
    Books that are horribly coming apart are weeded out and replaced
    Preservation

    Media Specialist orders in the Spring for the next year
    Freedom to order any subscription
    Check off list when they issues arrive
    Call company if they are missing
    Censor
    Out of print issues
    Mishaps
  • 12. Periodicals
    • Shelved on rotating rack
    • 13. Shelves are labeled by periodical name and by interest
    • 14. Not for checkout
    • 15. Retention policy: stored in back office for teachers to take as they wish
    • 16. Periodicals over 5 years are discarded
