      • In order to plan and/or perform investigation on its effect on growth of plants/ selected plants , we need to know more about food compost.
      • Compost can be rich in nutrients.
      • It benefits for the land in many ways, including as a  soil conditioner , a  fertilizer , addition of vital humus  or  humic acids and as a natural   pesticide  for soil.

      • You will need the following items:
      • >Tea bags tea inside the tea bags must be taken out)
      • >Coffee powder
      • >Banana skins cut into tiny pieces)
      • >Plastic container not smaller than B3 size)
      • >Egg shells crashed into tiny pieces)
      • >Peanut shells crashed into tiny pieces)
      • >Dry soil
      • *-plant seeds into the artifact

      • How to make the artifact?
      • Step 1 :mix the items together
      • Step 2 :place a thin layer of soil to act as the base in the plastic container.
      • Step 3 :place a thin layer of the mix items on top of the thin layer of the soil.
      • Repeat Step 2 and Step 3 respectively till the container is filled to the brim.**
      • *-the last layer on the top of the container must be a thin layer of soil .
      • *-water the seeds everyday and wait for the plants to grow for weeks.

      • Can every food waste be made into compost?
      • No. Food waste like meat, lime, bones, fish/fish waste, dairy products(cheese, butter, yoghurt) and oils cannot be composed.
      • They imbalance the nutrient-rich structure of other food and vegetation waste and breakdown slowly and attract rodents and other scavenging animals, while meat attracts maggots.
      • What is biogas?
      • Biogas, which originates from biogenic material and is a type of biofuel, refers to gas produced by the biological breakdown of organic matter in the absence of oxygen.
      • Biogas can be used as a fuel in any country for any heating purpose and can also be used to convert the energy in the gas into electricity and heat.

      • Small amounts of herbicide-treated plants may be mixed in the pile as long as you allow for thorough decomposition as weed killers and other pesticides break down at various rates.
      • If you use treated grass clippings, the breakdown of these chemicals should be at least as fast as breakdown in the soil.
      • Plants killed with weed killers that are soil inactive should present no problem when composted in small quantities.
      • In conclusion, avoid plants treated with weed killers.
