  • 8. Focus: Food compost
    • In order to plan and/or perform investigation on its effect on growth of plants/ selected plants , we need to know more about food compost.
    • Compost can be rich in nutrients.
    • It benefits for the land in many ways, including as a  soil conditioner , a  fertilizer , addition of vital humus  or  humic acids and as a natural   pesticide  for soil.

    • With the food compost acting as a soil conditioner or a fertilizer which eventually contain minerals , the plants will grow healthier than plants without food compost.

    • How to make the artifact?
    • You will need the following items:
    • >Tea bags tea inside the tea bags must be taken out)
    • >Coffee powder
    • >Banana skins cut into tiny pieces)
    • >Plastic container not smaller than B3 size)
    • >Egg shells crashed into tiny pieces)
    • >Peanut shells crashed into tiny pieces)
    • >Dry soil
    • *-plant seeds into the artifact

    • How to make the artifact?
    • Step 1 :mix the items together
    • Step 2 :place a thin layer of soil to act as the base in the plastic container.
    • Step 3 :place a thin layer of the mix items on top of the thin layer of the soil.
    • Repeat Step 2 and Step 3 respectively till the container is filled to the brim.**
    • *-the last layer on the top of the container must be a thin layer of soil .
    • *-water the seeds everyday and wait for the plants to grow for weeks.

    • Biogas could potentially help reduce global climate change.
    • utilization of biogas would generate enough electricity to meet up to three percent of the continent's electricity expenditure
    • saving fossil fuels, time collecting firewood, money and cooking time
    • protecting forests
    • using crop residues for animal fodder instead of fuel
    • improving hygienic conditions, the rural standard of living, and reducing air and water pollution

    • In North America, utilization of biogas would generate enough electricity to meet up to three percent of the continent's electricity expenditure.
    • Germany
    • Germany is Europe's biggest biogas producer as it is the market leader in biogas technology.

    • United Kingdom
    • On the 5th October 2010, biogas was injected into the UK gas grid for the first time. Sewage from over 30,000 Oxfordshire homes is sent to Didcot sewage treatment works, where it is treated in an anaerobic digester to produce biogas, which is then cleaned to provide gas for approximately 200 homes.
    • India
    • In India, Pakistan and Bangladesh biogas produced in small-scale digestion facilities is called  gobar gas ; it is estimated that such facilities exist in over two million households in India and in thousands in Pakistan, particularly North Punjab, due to the thriving population of livestock.

    • There are 30 million rural households in China that have biogas digesters.
    • United States
    • With the many benefits of biogas, it is starting to be utilized in the United States more. In 2003, the United States consumed 147 trillion BTU of energy from "landfill gas", about 0.6% of the total U.S. natural gas consumption.

    • Are there any  other effect  on food waste when we do the decomposing of food waste? Are there other places to have decomposing of food waste taking place besides the garden?
