  1. 1. ITC 5630 Advanced Web Design for Education Fall 2010 ITC Fall 09 Cohort 1 and ITC Fall 09 Cohort 2
  2. 2. Schedule <ul><li>The class schedule is online in AsULearn </li></ul><ul><li>Two class sessions for each topic, but please stay in your cohort (unless you okay with me in advance) </li></ul><ul><li>Five total full-class meetings (including tonight), finishing the week of Nov 26 </li></ul>

Components <ul><li>Web Design Levels 1-5: Personal Portfolio </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Work though tutorials on web design to develop a 3 page personal portfolio website using an HTML editor </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Group Project 1: Design a Community Website </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Design and build a community oriented website for a club or organization of your choice, using a social networking platform like Spruz, Grouply, etc. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Group Project 2: Build a Data Website for Teaching </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Develop a learning activity that allow students to interact with data in a web-embedded spreadsheet that you have created, using Zoho Sheet, EditGrid, etc. </li></ul></ul>

Principles of Accessible Design </li></ul></ul></ul>

Activity 1: Personal Portfolio Web Design Levels 1-5 <ul><li>This activity will begin today and end the week of Sep 26 </li></ul><ul><li>You will work through Level 1 to 5 of web design, listed on the AsULearn site and in the Web Design Workroom in Teleplace </li></ul><ul><li>There are video tutorials in Atomic Learning to assist for most levels </li></ul><ul><li>Deliverable: Create a 3 page personal website, hosted on the COE vygotsky server, that includes your homepage, resume/CV, and list of projects from your ITC program courses. Do not use any templates or pre-made HTML pages </li></ul><ul><li>Due: Your class meeting the week of Sep 26 </li></ul>

Activity 2: Group Project Design a Community Website <ul><li>Work in groups of 2 to 5 members: </li></ul><ul><li>Choose a school group or club, community organization, etc. that would need a website to communicate with members and post news </li></ul><ul><li>Develop a proposal for the site by talking to the members, take notes, summarize their needs </li></ul><ul><li>Build a simple version of the site using a social networking / community-oriented platform like Ning,, BigTent, etc. </li></ul><ul><li>Deliverables: Proposal, notes, website address </li></ul><ul><li>Due: Your class meeting the week of Oct 24 </li></ul>

Activity 3: Group Project Develop a Data Website for Education <ul><li>Work in groups of 2 to 5 members: </li></ul><ul><li>Choose a lesson or unit where students could compare data, and/or add to a data set </li></ul><ul><li>Create a spreadsheet for that data set </li></ul><ul><li>Explore the capabilities of Zoho Sheet, and EditGrid, and other online spreadsheet/data services </li></ul><ul><li>Upload your spreadsheet to one of these services, then embed it from there into a website (HTML pages, Google Sites, wiki, blog; any type of site is okay) </li></ul><ul><li>Deliverables: Lesson/unit description, website URL </li></ul><ul><li>Due: Your class meeting the week of Nov 26 </li></ul>
