  15. 15. The young hunter Gatson, anadmirer, could not understandher.“Why don’t you look at meinstead of those books, Belle?”

  17. 17. One day Maurice went off to sellone of his machines. But he lost hisway and was attacked by a pack ofwolves. His horse Phillip droppedhim down and galloped away inpanic. babuappat@gmail.com
  18. 18. But to Maurice’s luck he was ableto find refuge in a strange, oldcastle deep in the forest.babuappat@gmail.com
  19. 19. In the castle, Mrs. Potts the teapot,Mr. Cogsworth the clock andMr.Lumiere, the candlestandwelcomed Belle’s father.babuappat@gmail.com
  20. 20. “Our master will be angry if he seesyou here.” they said. At thatmoment the beast appeared. Hecaught Maurice and put him in thecastle dungeon. babuappat@gmail.com
  21. 21. Back at home, Belle was gettingworried since the horse Phillip hadcome back without her father.babuappat@gmail.com
  22. 22. She swung on to Phillip’s back andsaid “Run, take me to my father.”Phillip galloped fast and broughtBelle to the castle.babuappat@gmail.com
  23. 23. But just as she found her father inthe cell, the Beast appeared. Bellerecoiled in horror at the sight of hisface.babuappat@gmail.com
  24. 24. Then she gathered all her courageand pleaded with the Beast to sether father free and to keep herimprisoned instead.babuappat@gmail.com
  25. 25. The Beast agreed to Belle’ssuggestion. He set Maurice freeand threw him out of the castle.Then he led Belle to her room andsaid, “The castle is now your home.babuappat@gmail.com
  26. 26. You can move freely all over, butdo not enter the west wing.This part of the castle is out ofbounds for you.”babuappat@gmail.com
  27. 27. But in the night Belle crept quietlyinto the west wing despite theban.There she was attracted by themagic rose, which was on thewindow under a glass.babuappat@gmail.com
  28. 28. The Beast suddenly appeared infront of the window and roared inanger.Belle turned her back in horror andfled the room.babuappat@gmail.com
  29. 29. In fear and panic Belle rode out onPhillip into the dark forest, whereshe was attacked by wolves.babuappat@gmail.com
  30. 30. Luckily, the Beast came to herhelp and fought the wolves till theygave up and disappeared fromthere.When Belle saw that the Beastwas injured she felt sorry for him.babuappat@gmail.com
  31. 31. She brought him back to thecastle and bandaged his wounds.“Thank you for saving my life,” shesaid politely.babuappat@gmail.com
  32. 32. But the Beast only murmured ananswer.But as Belle turned away,something like a slight smilepassed over his face.babuappat@gmail.com
  33. 33. In the following days the Beastshowed Belle his library andbehaved like a gentleman.babuappat@gmail.com
  34. 34. “Maybe she will succeed in brakingthe spell,” Mrs. Potts muttered tothe others.babuappat@gmail.com
  35. 35. One evening as Belle showed theBeast how to dance he asked,“Are you happy here with me,Belle?”babuappat@gmail.com
  36. 36. “Yes of course!” Belle saidhesitatingly, “But I’m longing formy father. If only I could see himagain, I’d know whether he is wellor not.”babuappat@gmail.com
  37. 37. “You can do that,” the Beast saidand gave her the magical mirror.babuappat@gmail.com
  38. 38. In the mirror Belle saw her fathersearching for her when suddenlyhe sank to the floor. “I must go tohim! Belle cried. Otherwise he’lldie!”babuappat@gmail.com
  39. 39. The magical mirror led Belle to herfather. But hardly had she broughthim home when some villagersappeared.babuappat@gmail.com
  40. 40. “We have come to take yourfather to the mental asylum,” saidGatson. “He is crazy.He insists that a wild beast haskept you imprisoned in his castle.”babuappat@gmail.com
  41. 41. Then Gatson whispered to Belle,If you marry me I will see to it thatnothing happens to your father.”“Never” Belle replied.babuappat@gmail.com
  42. 42. “This Beast exists. I can prove it toyou!” She turned it in the mirror!But it is not bad and will not harmanybody!”babuappat@gmail.com
  43. 43. When Gatson saw how lovinglyBelle looked at the Beast in themirror, he was filled with jealousy.He said “Folks, look at thismonster! It will come and rob yourchildren! We must kill it!”babuappat@gmail.com
  44. 44. And soon the villagers were ontheir way to the castle where theBeast lived.babuappat@gmail.com
  45. 45. Belle tried in vain to stop them.When she finally reached thecastle, Gatson and the Beast werefighting each other.babuappat@gmail.com
  46. 46. As the Beast saw Belle hestopped fighting and Gatson usedthat opportunity to jab a knife inthe Beast’s Back.babuappat@gmail.com
  47. 47. The Beast roared so loudly withpain that Gatson stepped back,lost his balance, and fell into thevalley.babuappat@gmail.com
  48. 48. Belle knelt beside the injuredBeast. She kissed him on hischeek and cried, “No! You mustnot die! Please don’t! I love you!”babuappat@gmail.com

  50. 50. The magic rose bloomed againunder its glass and soon thewedding was celebrated- of Belleand her prince, whom she lovedeven when he was a beast!babuappat@gmail.com
  51. 51. Beauty and BeastA short description "Beauty and the Beast" (French: La Belle et la Bête) is atraditional fairy tale. The first published version of the fairytale was a rendition by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve,published in La jeune américaine, et les contes marins in1740. The best-known written version was an abridgement ofher work published in 1756 by Jeanne-Marie Le Prince deBeaumont, in Magasin des enfants, ou dialogues entre unesage gouvernante et plusieurs de ses élèves; an Englishtranslation appeared in 1757. Variants of the tale are known across Europe. In France, forexample, Zémire et Azor is an operatic version of the storyof Beauty and the Beast written by Marmontel and composedbyGrétry in 1771. It had enormous success well into the 19thcentury. It is based on the second version of the tale.
