The digital economy is often viewed as the habitat of young, digital native companies. How can established companies compete? One hundred years ago, factory electrification and mass production advanced—and challenged—existing businesses. The survivors of that era now find new challenges and opportunities in today’s digital economy.

Join Allen Rodgers, director of Pearson eCollege’s developer network and API program, and Apigee’s Dan Tortorici in a fireside chat to learn how Pearson Higher Education and its eCollege division recognized their digital potential and overcame challenges to increase business agility and efficiency.

Join to Discuss:
- the business needs addressed by Pearson’s initiatives
- the company’s organizational and social obstacles
- how business and IT aligned for focus and efficiency
- Pearson eCollege best practices and advice for beginning a digital journey

  • Pearson’s growth strategy has largely been one of acquisition. Pearson acquired eCollege in 2007 to continue expanding its digital education business. A primary driver was the potential of leveraging its platform capability to extend distribution of and consolidation of its digital textbooks. This deep-dive into the technical realities of cross-platform integration highlighted the need for a strategy to; 1) streamline integration across silos, 2) simplify partner integration, and 3) enable modern access to backend systems for greater agility. Several early initiatives, including the WSOD and Plug and Play Programs resulted in Pearson’s first comprehensive and current API strategy – an internal PaaS that will serve as the technology backbone for Pearson’s Higher Ed Division.  Apigee has served as both technology provider and API consultant throughout the process and Apigee Edge is a critical piece in the delivery of these services. “APIs are no longer considered solely in the realm of technology but a key business enabler for Pearson’s success in the digital world” Allen Rodgers, Dir, Products Platforms Apigee Edge Advanced, 2 region DN, Internal and partner APIs
