Most of you already know that TED stands for Entertainment Technology and Design. The main objective of TED is to spread ideas, any idea that is worth spreading.. We believe in the power of ideas and how they can help in changing attitude and ultimately the world..these ideas could be in design, arts, culture, sociology, mathematics, simply anything!
And since TEDx is and independently organized event, that creates a local platform for local speakers ..we started searching for our own thinkers and doers.. So we chose YOU!
We are usually born with two types of thinking.. The analytical side and the creative side..
We are usually encouraged to depend more on our analytical side.. THAT Helps us create reports, statistics..etc.. Which could be very informative..but a bit boring
While the creative side.. Like movies, music etc.. Are fun..
To create a presentation we need to rely on both our analytical and creative side, to help produce a presentation that is explanatory, INFORMATIVE AND FUN!
But the problem with presentations that they fall flat and are rarely entertaining..so the key to deliver your presentation is DON’T SIMPLY PRESENT IT!
TURN IT INTO A STORY!
The success of every talk depends on connecting with the audience. and help them connect with your story. there is a difference between talking a stranger and talking to a friend.. When you are talking to a friend, the tone will be genuine, humble and approachable!
Persuasion! That’s what you are trying to do with your presentation. persuade the audience to spread your idea.the more you are connected with your audience the easier it will be for you to persuade them! So find this point that is shared between you and your audience and use it to make your presentation more friendly and approachable.
So get to know ur audience..!
The good news about TED’s audience that they are know to be a soft crowd.. What they all have in common, is their interest and passion in learning and spreading ideas.. So be assured that they are here to hear something new! And however unique their ideas is, they are here to hear it! And hear You!
The two key notes in a presentation are: humility and authenticity
Talk on a personal level.. But don’t make it all about yourself! Don’t be guarded! Don’t be full of yourself! It’s not about you.. It’s about the audience!
Think of yourself as the mentor who is always humble..and the audience as the “hero of your idea”
That’s all what TED’s about is “ideas worth spreading”..**
And for your idea to turn into reality, someone in the audience needs to take your idea and run with it! Otherwise your idea is dead..so the relationship with the audience..is the same relationship between a hero and a mentor.>>the hero needs the mentor for guidance.. While the mentor needs the hero to spread the idea!
Remember that the audience gave you 15 minutes of their lives.. Which they won’t get back..!so when you’re talk is over they need to feel like it was a magical moment.
Seize the idea of the very public stage to get your idea across
You need to establish you Big idea!
To reach this big idea, you need to present two things: your unique point of view+ what’s at stake!
UPOV: YOU CAN HAVE THE SAME TOPIC..BUT APPROACH IT FROM A DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW..IN TED PEOPLE VERY OFTEN TALK ABOUT THE SAME SUBJECT BUT PRODUCE VERY DIFFERENT TALKS.
You need to reinvent your idea, to get the best possible result out.. With brainstorming you’ll find you idea turn into something else.. And after enough time you’ll find it become something truly unique
Show the audience what the world is be like without your idea
Think of the impact you want to have on your audience.. Think of what you want the audience to feel or believe or do after you talk.. This is called the audience journey!
To make the journey important .. You need to start with the problem( how the world is today without your idea).. To put the problem on the table.. Then make the dramatic shift and show them what the world could be like WITH YOUR IDEA!.. You need to show big gap..and you need the audience to see it to.. Only then.. Will the aha moment happen!

The star moment is that moment in your presentation..that people are going to walk away with and remember it on the next day, or whenever they discuss your talk…It could be anywhere in your presentation!
