    1. Preschool Education in India
      • Total 0-6 child population is 17.94 million
      • Total coverage of pre school age children in all kinds of pre primary schools is 25% (Sixth All India Education Survey NCERT 1996)
      • Pre-school education has very low penetration in India as compared to other developed countries.
      • Even those that exist are mostly an assortment of toys thrown in by a well-intentioned but untrained matron.
    2. Do U Know? High-quality early childhood education is essential. Fifty percent of the ability to learn is developed in the first four years of life, another 30 percent by the age of 8 and the remaining 20 percent by the age of 18. Everything we learn later grows from the patterns established during these years. Pre-school years are vital years! Preschool may not be a place where formal education is imparted but YES , it definitely is a place where children have their first taste of independence.
    3. Pivotal Role in child’s development Preschool Teacher
      • He/She select and present materials and equipment appropriate to the stage of development of the child.
      • Introduce new materials. They can act as a stimulus to children’s ideas.
      • Give time and space to creative activities.
      • Encourage the child.
      • Read books to children.
      • Do not judge by adult standards. Value the child’s work.
      • SO… Teachers in a preschool program need to acquire training in
      • Early Childhood Education and Development.
      • The Above could be due to:
      • Paucity of teacher education courses
      • Poor access to colleges
      • Courses priced very high
      • Duration of courses
      • Desired employment opportunity
      • Compensation
      BURDEN ON EDUCATION UNTRAINED TEACHERS
      • Nearly 28% of teachers across the country are untrained.
      • This is the official figure , it could even be 50% say experts.
