  3. 3. <ul><li>Christopher Columbus was born in Genoba (Italy) in 1451. His parents were Domenico Colombo and Susanna Fontanarrosa. In his youth he loved marine life. </li></ul>
  4. 4. <ul><li>In the 1470, came to Portugal where he married and had a son named Diego. In this country he wenton various maritime expeditions. Colon was then propose this to find a sea route to China and India across the Atlantic. </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>By not getting the support of the Portuguese crown he moved to Spain where he won the backing of Queen Isabella of Castile. After signing the capitulation of Santa Fe (April 17, 1492) organized his expedition in search of the Far East by sailing West. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Discovery
  7. 7. <ul><li>On his first trip to the island Guanahani arrived, their ships were the Pinta, Niña and Santa Maria (October 12, 1492) he called it San Salvador and he explored the island of Cuba which he named Jane, and came to the island Santo Domingo that she calls the Spanish. On this island fortress built the Christmas and returned to Spain thinking he had reached islands off the Asian continent.  </li></ul>

  9. 10. <ul><li>Columbus went on three more expeditions: on his second voyage he explored the Lesser Antilles, Puerto Rico and Jamaica on the third, he discovered the island Trinidad and the mouth of the Orinoco River on the fourth, he discorvered the coast of Central America. </li></ul>

  11. 13. <ul><li>Until the end of his days in Columbus insisted that he had reached the Asian continent. He died in Valladolid in 1506, unaware that he had discovered a new continent.  </li></ul>
