1. 1. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD Q VS NME
 2. 2. NME Magazine

Was first published in March 1952

It was the first British paper to include a singles chart in November 1952.

It was heavily associated with Gonzo Journalism 1970s, a way of writing that is written subjectively, often including the reporter as part of the story from a first person narrative. But changed in 1972 to more of apunk style.

Although magazine heavily associates, Hard Rock/Punk Rock, it now mainly focuses on Indie music due to it’s rise.

In the 1970s became best selling British Magazine.

Due to having to compete with other magazines, changed style from a paper esc mag to more tabloid size, including Glossy colour covers, 1998 onwards.

 3. 3. Image of the Original NME Front Cover Style and New Style Original style plain simple. 1990s more eye catching. Our day and age. Massive transformation.
 4. 4. NME MAGAZINE SLIDE TWO

Targets 15-25 olds

Friendly informative tone

Has respect/power to make unknown bands huge…. E.g Kaiser Chiefs, Strokes, Libertines.

NME more than a magazine, now a multi media brand in it’s own right.

NME TV

NME AWARDS

The awards are one of the most high profile, along with the Q awards. NME tour is nationwide tour, used to break new bands and culminates with a massive concert at the 02 arena.

 5. 5. NME AWARDS/TOUR/TV BIG band Kasabian at the awards. Has it’s on tv channel, and chart show. Has it’s own tour! NME IS AN SENSATION! It’s not just a Magazine it’s a way of living.
 6. 6. Q Magazine

.

Was first Published in 1986

Q was brought by Mark Ellen and David Hepworth as believed that Magazines at the time were ignoring older music buyers.

Q has also had a lot of reviews, featuring new realses, Albums , music, films, tv, concert reviews.

Q is arguably the most respected of all Magazines, and the main editor Paul Rees enhances this as everyone wants to be interviewed by Q magazine.

 7. 7. Q Awards/Tv It has it’s own TV channel. Coldplay at the awards able to attract the best stars.
 8. 8. Why I have chose to Associate my magazine with NME and Q style.

Like this type of Music, and appeals to my age group. As well NME articles are how I want to write my mine. They are very descriptive, however at times they short punchy and entertaining. However my article could be very serious I am not sure yet.

Like the style of magazines, more so NME. However Q is very mainstream and appeals to a broader audience. And is a well known magazine.

 9. 9. Inspiration for my Magazine Nme style, is very much the look I was going for and will help my double page spread.
 10. 10. This is the main image. The Article is about a recently new Band and provides great information on them. The Band Talk about their own influences and styles. A very good article for a reader, who wants to know the best upcoming bands and music. What THE DPS IS .
 11. 11. Language of the DPS Very simplistic Language, reader at ease, feels part of the convo, could suggest band easy going. Article, generally isn’t rude! But talks about their new provocative song. Very informative, talks about their recent gig ‘ The Vaccines played sould out show at oxfords Jericho’ Casual Language ‘ murky hoxton bar sipping beer’ Article personal ‘ pouring his heart out’ Personal talks about their influences for music their style, e.g Smiths.
 12. 12. Tone

Very informative

Article is like a conversation, colloquial language.

Short easy sentences

A personal touch

Long descriptive sentences too.

 13. 13. FONT FONT: HEAVY SANS SERIF. Very common style, which could suggest normal guys.
 14. 14. Layout of the DPS Leading text Title Drop Cap Drop Cap Pull Quote which draws the reader in
 15. 15. Layout conventional or not? Very conventional, as natural eye flow from top right two bottom left.
 16. 16. Images and colour: I found the main image very simplistic, easy going image. Suggesting their personality easy going, and that is backed from the language of the magazine. Very common image, as just a close up of the band, suggesting are they a common type of band true or false? Probably true! The colours are very dark, white esc style. Very bland and simple, and that is what the article highlights their a simple band. And they admit that themselves.
 17. 17. HOW THISDPS RELATES TO MY MAGAZINE IN GENERAL

Both magazines firstly are of the same music style.

Although my articles will of a split in a band, the language, and style of the magazine will be very similar.

Both bands are of the magazines, are stereotypical, normal bands.

Images are similar, close up of the bands.

 18. 18.

Article about Cee Lo Green, about his new stardom.

His single ‘fuck you’

His album

His other songs

What type of singer he is

Who is similar to is he conventional or not?

Very typical of Q to get a hip, well respected front cover image! Of a person who is very successful and popular at this present time.

Has he just hit his stride? The ongoing message…

What is this DPS about ?
 19. 19. Language of the DPS Very informative, gives you info on his songs for instance ‘ Lady Killer proves ‘ fuck you song’ was no fluke’ and is a powerful soul song! Long sentences, so it’s very informative magazine. Also very q esc, as it’s very good appropriate language. Also the language suites the man on the front cover, as he’s very mature and well respected music artist. Personal language, ’15 years he’s hitting his stride’ emotes his struggle, but makes us happy at the end as he is getting his dream. It’s a nice article ‘ liked his single will love his album’ you know it talks about his talent, gives him a great image.
 20. 20. Tone

Very informative

Descriptive talks polite tone.

Overall a very polite nice article, which leaves you with a happy feeling at the end.

 21. 21. Layout of the DPS Emblem to show what the magazine is Sidebar, to show information. Pull quote to draw the reader in. Main image . Caption giving information. Leading text. Drop cap Ancor to show the end of magazine and who it was by.
 22. 22. Layout conventional or not?

Follows natural eye-flow, top right to bottom left.

IS THE LAYOUT CONVENTIONAL OR NOT? Yes it follows the natural eye-flow from top right to bottom left.
 23. 23. Image and Colour:

Image is very relaxed, cool image.

Is a flattering picture of him

Show’s possibly his diva style, with the big ring and the pose.

Plain simple colours, as the colour doesn't want to distract the reader from the quality of the article.

 24. 24. How does this DPS relate to my magazine/cover/DPS

Well Q shows you how to write a good strong article.

Although the magazine, is not like mine ina article sense, it’s given me knew perspectives on how to approach my dps. For instance a possibly review of the artists album, music, or past etc…
