Why do Asians really get straight A's? Why do Asians really become doctors and lawyers? Why do Asians really play the piano? Many people believe that the reason has to do with the pressure to perform and the pressure to conform, however, it goes much deeper than that—much, much deeper! This didactic novel reveals the truths about Asian culture, which will shock you to the marrow of your bones—and open a hidden world of long-guarded secrets.

Hehe, nah, I only accosted Vy Doan because of her puerile comments. I'm always a good boy. :)

  • ricofikri ricofikri Whew! After reading Anson's response (strikes) to Vy, I believe the exclamation: 'touche!' should be in order... :P (please don't pummel on my grammar...:D) 7 months ago Reply

Let's see if you're really as 'gifted' as you think you are.

Your quote: 'All the views presented in the book are really one-sided.'
Well, duh!—it's written in first-person narrative (that means one side). I didn't write this book from the side of an 80-year old female African tribal native because I'm not an 80-year old female African tribal native! So far, you're not so gifted; that's Strike 1...

Second, you claim that I, as the author, have not 'really dug deep into all these Asian circumstances.' Well, why don't you prove that then? Why don't you prove that Asian culture doesn't lionize money, status, and power? I dare you to prove that Asian parents don't push their kids to become doctors and lawyers, and I dare you to prove that Asian parents don't push their kids to get straight A's. Please, with a cherry on top, prove me wrong—I dare you! (Hint: you can't so that's why you attack me instead—typical of the insecure.)

Third, it's okay if you didn't like my book (so no need to say 'Sorry') but please don't give me advice on writing when your grammar is absolutely horrible. For example, you wrote, 'Your conclusion for each little stories are repetitive' when it should be 'Your conclusion for each little story is repetitive.' Maybe you should focus on the English language first before you take that big leap of writing a post on SlideShare. :) By the by, that's Strike 2, Mrs. Not-So-Gifted...

Moreover, if you actually have any writing experience, you would know that repetition is very important in getting your message across. It's called rote learning, which is how the vast majority of schools all around the world teach: by repetition and inculcation. I repeat the same thing over and over again so that you will not forget—very simple concept. But unfortunately, you don't seem that gifted to understand that very simple concept. Oops, that's Strike 3...too bad—you're out!

But before you head to the dugout and sulk, you'd be pleased to hear that my novel is currently being translated for bookstores in a few Asian countries, including your Vietnam. I find it ironic that you put the word novel in quotes (’novel’) to try to undermine my work when it's actually going to be published for bookstores in your native country of Vietnam. Looks like I got the last laugh.

My sage advice: learn some English, fix your grammar, and graduate from high school 'for the gifted' first. Notice how I put that in quotes? That means you're really not gifted. Doesn't feel too good to undermine others, huh? :)

  • pheenixteers Vy Doan , Student at TDN High School for the Gifted Sorry but I have to say the ’novel’ sucked big time!

All the views presented in the book are really one-sided. The author has not really dug deep into all these Asian circumstances. I find it full of childish, opinionated, shallow thinking.

Plus, a little practice on PARAPHRASING would be useful, dear author. Your conclusion for each little stories are repetitive and you keep using the same words, phrases, and better yet, SENTENCES over and over again!
