  • On slide 11, I mention importing existing bookmarks. In the session today, I mentioned the wrong format to save your export list in (from your browser). You can export/save your existing bookmarks from your browser in a variety of format choices in either .htm, .html, .opml, etc. -- and then use the file of bookmarks you saved to your computer to import the bookmarks into delicious.

  • Saving websites [i.e., bookmark, store] To an online web account Accessible via multiple computers/browsers Organize sites with “tags” [i.e., keywords, descriptors] Easy to search and find for future access Facilitates “social” or sharing aspect to social bookmarking Allows you to discover similar sites
  • Adding “a (relevant) keyword or term associated with or assigned to a piece of information (like picture, article, or video clip), thus describing the item and enabling keyword-based classification of information it is applied to.” (Wikipedia) Why? Organize/sort your sites “ Searchable” bookmark catalog of websites Explore other sites uers are saving Share sites with others
  • Both Delicious and StumbleUpon allow users to organize, share, and discover web pages. Web Discovery tool --> StumbleUpon is in its recommendation and review features as well as in its community building features (discussion groups, commenting on others reviews, personalized user profiles, etc.). Delicious --> true social bookmarking -- better features for organizing web content and staying current on topics, such bundling and RSS feeds
  • This morning, When I was covering importing existing bookmarks/favorites from your browser, I mentioned the wrong format to save your export list in (from your browser). To clarify  You can export/save your existing bookmarks from your browser of choice in either .htm or .html format -- and then use that .htm or .html file to import the bookmarks into delicious.
  • Bundling --> Folder for “like tags” e.g., baseball bundle may contain sites with tags “hitter” “pitcher” and “fielder”
