  2. 2. Subculture<br />Subculture- is a group of people with a culture (whether distinct or hidden) which differentiates them from the larger culture to which they belong. Ex) preps, gothic, jocks, etc.<br />

My Subculture<br />The strange and undefined:<br />Usually not committed to any group of people, doesn’t assign to any particular trend/outfit. <br />Changes taste in oneself.<br />Prefers changing appearance after ‘major’ event.<br />Likes to stand out or blend in from a crowd.<br />Often mistaken for labels of ‘Goth’, ‘Emo’, ‘Punk’ and more.<br />

Ethnocentrism<br />When I went to Blake H.S:<br />. the people who were also into trying different trends and explored different styles thought they were ‘different’ and ‘better’ then all the other ‘cliques’. <br />They usually hang with people who skated and wore black skinny jeans, band t-shirts and ‘VANZ’.<br />

Culture Shock<br />When I transferred to PBHS:<br />I saw people hanging with everyone, there were cliques but only in the Cafeteria, not much anywhere else.<br />You only saw a few who wore black anything and chains but everyone colored their hair bright colors not just one group.<br />Most of the people wore colorful clothing- shoes, jeans, and not one group would wear a certain brand, everyone wore most-all brands.<br />
  6. 6. Material Culture(Clothing, possessions, diet)<br />Wear different styles of clothing from different subcultures. (i.e. baggy shirts/pants, tight jeans, plaid skirt, petite sweaters, net/striped stockings, dresses etc.)<br />Apply make up in different ways.<br />Many shoes (combat boot, pumps, sandals, sneakers, etc.)<br />Sometimes goes vegan.<br />Recyclable products into purses, bags, etc.<br />

Material Culture(Folkways)<br />Always running late to an event<br />Changes clothes multiple times<br />Arrogant and/or selfish<br />Obesophobic, Bacteriophobic, Autophobic<br />Very Openly blunt about his/her sexuality<br />Often attracted to same sex<br />Creative mind<br />Procrastinating<br />

Material Culture(sanctions)<br />Thinks authority is annoying<br />Other females are inferior compared to themselves<br />Men are like puppies, easy to brainwash when ‘whipped’<br />Every person for themselves<br />Peers are immature<br />Live by the motto: “boys are toys, most girls are hoes, some are your ‘whores’”<br />
