Formation of RailTel• RailTel – Railway Budget 2000 • Announcement for formation of telecom corporation – Formed on 26th September 2000 – Authorised capital of Rs. 1000 crore. – PSU fully owned by Railways – To build nationwide multimedia broadband telecom network for commercial exploitation – Assets • Railway’s ROW for establishing OFC network • OFC based telecom assets of Indian Railways (transferred to RailTel).
