• This is a great activity to do using whiteboards, each description comes in on a click. Make sure you read the description as well as putting them on the board. Can be done in students books if you don’t want to use whiteboards.
• Check the answers from the entry activity (if not done on whiteboards)
• I would recommend that you print this sheet out for the students and get them to plot the points on the axes. Get them to discuss in pairs how the line has been made and how they can come up with an equation to describe the line. Ensure that you point out 1st set of points all the x co-ordinated are 5 and for the 2nd set all y co-ordinated are 4.
• Go through the examples on this slide to confirm understanding.
• This is a great activity to check understanding using the mini whiteboards. If not can be done using Q&A or in books.

• To check progress of the class, mark the task completed and then ask the students to rate how they found the activity, Green = confident, Yellow = OK, Red = Unconfident/don’t get it. Ask the students to draw the corresponding face next to their work so when marking you can see how the students found the task.
• Do this as Q&A as a class. To check understanding of the next task.
• Level 5 questions
• Students to peer or self assess how they have found this activity
• To check progress of the class, mark the task completed and then ask the students to rate how they found the activity, Green = confident, Yellow = OK, Red = Unconfident/don’t get it. Ask the students to draw the corresponding face next to their work so when marking you can see how the students found the task.

• Extension task for more able.

• Students to write in their books two sentences, the 1st to explain what they have done well and the 2nd to explain what they need to do to improve. Students to then share what they have written with the class.
• ### Lesson 4 verical and horizontal graphs

1. 1. Entry Activity We are going to pay a Key Words game called Taboo. Co-ordinate, Horizontal,I am going to describe a Vertical, key word (without using x axis, y axis, it) and you need to Equation write down what it is!
2. 2. Get ready to write down your key word Word number 1• It is straight• It is top to bottom• It is vertical• It is on all algebraic graphs• It can go on forever if needed• It is how we describe the line that goes on a graph to show the scale
3. 3. Get ready to write down your key word Word number 2• It is has two values• The values can be positive or negative• It describes a position• It is used when working on graphs• It is used in everyday life when using maps• It has a value of x and a value of y• (x,y)
4. 4. Get ready to write down your key word Word number 3• It is across• It is left to right• It is the same direction as the x axis• It is from the word horizon
5. 5. Get ready to write down your key word Word number 4• It is across• It is left to right• It is horizontal• It is on all algebraic graphs• It can go on forever if needed• It is how we describe the line that goes on a graph to show the scale
6. 6. Get ready to write down your key word Word number 5• It is straight• It is how we describe the y axis• It is the name of some blinds (that go on windows)• It is up and down• If we dropped a ball it is the way it would go
7. 7. Get ready to write down your key word Word number 6• It has letters or symbols to represent unknown numbers• It and can have numbers in it• It is how we write rules in Maths• You can put different number in it• It can have lots of different outcomes• It can be used to describe a line
