IMAGINATION: Creativity <ul><li>Galileo made his first important scientific observation at age 17. </li></ul><ul><li>Concert singer, Marian Anderson began her singing career at age 6, teaching herself how to play piano at age 8. </li></ul><ul><li>Handel composed music when he was 11 years old. </li></ul>

  23. 25. “ And the point is…?” <ul><li>Incredible discoveries and achievements have been made by people in their early years and teens. </li></ul><ul><li>You are SO ready right now to create new and brilliant ideas. </li></ul><ul><li>So…what are we waiting for? </li></ul>
  24. 26. IMAGINATION: Creativity <ul><li>… involves your ability to take your thoughts and ideas and turn them into something you want. </li></ul><ul><li>Like muscles in your body, your creative ability needs to “work out” in order to develop and grow stronger. </li></ul>
  25. 27. So let’s get to “work” … no … make that “play” <ul><li>IT’S GAME TIME! </li></ul><ul><li>The name of the game is “How Come?” </li></ul>
  26. 28. “ How Come…” <ul><li>Ms. Ross went to school in the middle of the day, in the middle of the week, but she didn’t see any kids there. How come? </li></ul><ul><li>Come up with as many creative scenarios as your imagination will allow. Push yourself beyond the obvious. </li></ul>
  27. 29. IMAGINATION: Problem Solving <ul><li>You have what you need to solve </li></ul><ul><li>almost any problem: </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Your brain </li></ul></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Your powers of imagination </li></ul></ul></ul></ul>
  28. 30. Successful problem solving takes more than gathering information. It requires looking at the problem from all angles.
  29. 31. Instead of a “Quick Fix” try… Mind Mapping (aka Concept Mapping)

  31. 34. IMAGINATION: Imaginative Reading <ul><li>Reading is one of the strongest </li></ul><ul><li>ways to develop your imagination. </li></ul><ul><li>Great readers envision the world </li></ul><ul><li>of story in their minds. </li></ul>
  32. 35. <ul><li>Imaginative readers are able to </li></ul><ul><li>literally step inside the story. </li></ul>
  33. 36. <ul><li>Your Turn: </li></ul><ul><li>With a partner, share an interesting </li></ul><ul><li>scene from a book you’re reading </li></ul><ul><li>After reading it together, set the </li></ul><ul><li>book aside and assume the role of </li></ul><ul><li>one of the characters </li></ul><ul><li>Act out the scene, exploring what </li></ul><ul><li>each character might say, do, feel, </li></ul><ul><li>believe… </li></ul>

  35. 38. Imagination involves all five senses… One can imagine a sound, taste, smell, a physical sensation, feeling, or emotion. For each of us, some senses are easier to visualize than others.
  36. 39. Game Time! “ Imagine the Music” First step, simply relax and listen to this…
  37. 40. If you were to sculpt the song, what materials would you use? How does the song smell? What shape would it make? If you could take a bite of this song, what would it taste like? What color is the song?
