  2. 2.  During the Depression , if a family could not afford to pay rent they lost their home. Soup kitchens were established for many of the families that couldnt afford a meal. There was a horrible drought on many farms which soon was called “Dust Bowl”
  3. 3.  Even though it was for a short amount of time, many Americans were able to escape by entertainment. They would go to the movies or sit and listen to one of many radio programs.
  4. 4.  Although it was a harsh time many unemployed became the subject of stories and told them through pictures Many Showed their stories through the posture of the person or object in the art work
  5. 5.  Entertainment was needed more than ever. Dance craze was a marathon where couples would dance for hours and the winner got a prize Movies was another thing and only cost 25cents The Board Game Monopoly was another major fad
  6. 6.  President Hoover issued a statement assuring the nation that industry was “on a sound and prosperous basis” Next step Hoover made was „public works‟ – government financed projects.
  7. 7.  Since there was now little money in the economy, Hoover turned his attention to that Asked to put more currency into circulation, but board refused NCC created pool of money to enable trouble banks
  8. 8. Overall, during the time of TheGreat Depression many peoplelost their jobs. A lot of familieslost many things including theirhomes. The economy lost moneyand society went down. Hoovertried many things to rebuild theeconomy. That is what chapter 9
