  • 2. My name is Angela Brooks I am a nurse who has worked for the 24 years in a state funded mental hospital. For 21-1/2 of those years I worked on the units with the patients until July 2011 when I moved to staff development department in Education and Training. I worked my business part-time about 2-3 hours a day on the go using my smart phone, Ipad and my blog. I did this from the baseball field on the road with my sons as they played sports and I used social media to run my business.

  • 4. Most people neglect their business because they use the excuse they do not have time – they are to busy – they have kids – a job or just life in general gets in the way. With social media and smart phones it levels the game with the small business to the corporate
  • 5. What is Social Media? "Social Media is life." It's about being authentic. If you and I were standing face to face, how would you ask me to check out your business? With that mindset, that's how you write calls to action. If we are face to face, and you invited me to connect with you, would you provide me a way to do it? Sure, you'd give me your business card, or a brochure, etc., that has info on how to connect with you right?
  • 6. Mobile Marketing When in doubt, think mobile — and especially tablets People are on the go more now than ever and very few people are very far away from their smart phones.
  • 7. Mobile Marketing Watch people the next time your in a long line, waiting areas, in traffic people are in touch through the internet and they want to tell someone about what is on their mind. As a business owner you should be listening to what they are saying Who cares right? You DO!
  • 8. Time to Tweet Tweet one thing you just learned Use this Hashtag #onlinebusiness
  • 9. Twitter is an information network Twitter is a real-time information network that connects you to the latest stories, ideas, opinions and news about what you find interesting. Simply find your #Niche market and listen to what they are talking about – what are their concerns. In their conversations you will find the next blog post to publish right on que for the things they are thinking – almost like reading their minds. #listenup
  • 10. Twitter is an information network At the heart of Twitter are small bursts of information called Tweets. Each Tweet is 140 characters long, but don’t let the small size fool you—you can discover a lot in a little space. You can see photos, videos and conversations directly in Tweets to get the whole story at a glance, and all in one place. If your paying attention to your customer they will tell you what they want to talk about
  • 11. Time to Tweet Tweet one thing you just learned Use this Hashtag #onlinebusiness
  • 12. A hashtag is a keyword prefixed with the "#" symbol. You add a hash tag to a tweet to indicate the topic of the message. A hashtag—a # symbol plus a text string, like #ThisIsAHashtag Hash tags are used for events, ideas, conferences, TV shows, and other subjects to make it easier to find topical tweets.
  • 13. By using a hashtag, others can use the search tool to find everybody talking about a particular topic. Hashtags were invented by early Twitter users because there was no way (or space) to add category information or other data in the body of a tweet. The trending topics section of your home page will show hash tags alongside other currently popular keywords. The difference between a keyword and a #hashtag is that a hashtag may not be a normal word. Also, #hashtags are always one word.
  • 14. Top Hashtag Tips: #1- - The hashtags you use on Faceook, InstaGram and Twitter used INSIDE of a sentence should flow naturally and be words you want to be connected to. #2- Don't use #hashtagstosaylongsentencesinsteadofwritingthemout. This looks ridiculous! It's more a fun thing to do but does NOTHING for your marketing. #3- Look at the TAG CLOUD on your blog! It's created from your blog posts and content. This gives you a good beginning reference point of what to use #4- Use 2-4 #hashtags but don't use them EVERYTIME and don't use them excessively.
  • 15. #5- DO NOT recommend using #hashtags in your comments on someone else's business page on Facbeook. You'll look like a spammer and look desperate. #6- Use a variety of #hashtags, but focus on your top 7 and use them weekly. #7- Put #hashtags on photos, videos and posts. Now that Facebook is using clickable hashtags in posts, comments and feeds, you want to use this for your advantage. But please remember tips 1-6 above.
  • 16. Time to Tweet Tweet one thing you just learned Use this Hashtag #onlinebusiness
  • 17. Big WAKEUP CALL! I don't care if you don't like #hashtags and you are mad at Facebook for rolling them out. The public wanted them and they are popular everywhere. Have a business mind: Facebook will now connect any #hashtag you use on their platform with other places online. NOTE THIS from Facebook's rollout- "Any hashtags that you use on other platforms that are connected to your Facebook Page will be automatically clickable and searchable on Facebook." That is fantastic!!!
  • 18. Type in the search for tags
  • 19. Lots of confusion flying around about #hashtag #privacy. * Find what is Trending – don’t try to create your own #tread. Use tags that people are already looking for and following and get in the conversation. * Hashtags work on personal profile posts, fan page posts, group posts, event posts, and all comments. * As with all personal profile features on Facebook, privacy settings prevail. * If you publish a post on your profile to friends only, and the post contains a hashtag - yes, the hashtag will be clickable and open up to display all other posts on Facebook containing that hashtag. But, ONLY friends can see * Public posts—with or without hashtags—are public. *#Hashtags follow events like #RAW4 #onlinebusiness – when a large group is tweets the same tag – people begin to notice and follow.

  • 27. It all starts here * Use keywords with #hashtags related to your niche and you will quickly notice an uptick in your follower count simply because people can find you. * Include a professional profile picture – the vast majority of people you want to follow you on Twitter are not going to follow you if your picture looks like that default "egghead“ * Use your real name not your business name. Your business may change – your name normally doesn’t. If your name is taken you may have to use a _ or a – to get it to work like @angelabrooks * Create a Twitter landing page on your website and link to it from your bio with a sign up form to your business or to your DMC

  • 29. What do you put on Twitter…. * Use your manners! respond to @mentions .You would not ignore someone who is talking to you in person so make sure you are not doing this on social media. * Create content people want to share (use your blog post, break them down into 120 characters) * Make sure your content is valuable to people and worthy of being shared! This is the number one way to make sure that you actually keep the Twitter followers you have worked hard to attract. Bring your personality to the table. * Don’t over use #hashtags and @usernames * Follow the Golden Rule and play nice: Share others' content. Treat others the way you want to be treated.
