ABUSE n cruel or violent treatment of someone ATTACK n an act of violence that is intended to hurt a person or damage a place give a beating to; subject to a beating, either as a punishment or as an act of BEAT UP v aggression BEHAVE v to do things that are good, bad, sensible etc BEHAVE v to not do things that annoy or offend people YOURSELF BEHAVIOUR n the things that a person or animal does (good / bad behaviour) BULLY v to threaten to hurt someone or frighten them, especially someone smaller or weaker someone who uses their strength or power to frighten or hurt someone who is BULLY n weaker BULLYING n the act of intimidating a weaker person to make them do something BRAVE adj dealing with danger, pain, or difficult situations with courage and confidence BYSTANDER someone who watches what is happening without taking part when people use unpleasant words to describe someone in order to insult or upset CALL NAMES v them COWARD adj someone who is not at all brave: DECEIVE v to make someone believe something that is not true EXTORTION v obtain something by force FAULT n a mistake in the way that something was made to make someone's life unpleasant, for example by frequently saying offensive things HARASS to them or threatening them HIT v to touch someone or something quickly and hard with your hand, a stick etc HURT v to injure yourself or someone else not feeling at all confident about yourself, your abilities, or your relationships with INSECURITY n people INTIMIDATE v to frighten or threaten someone into making them do what you want LOOK AWAY v to turn one’s side away LOUSY adj very bad, stinking MILD adj not serious

2nd Bachillerato Vocabulary: Bullying ©Ángela Ruiz 2010-11 MAKE FUN v ridicule a sudden strong feeling of fear or nervousness that makes you unable to think PANIC n clearly or behave sensibly PRETEND v to behave as if something is true when in fact you know it is not, in order to deceive people or for fun QUIET adj not making much noise, or making no noise at all when you regard something or someone as important and are careful not to harm RESPECT n them, treat them rudely etc SCARE v to make someone feel frightened SCARED adj frightened of something, or nervous about something nervous and embarrassed about meeting and speaking to other people, especially SHY adj people you do not know SHUN v to deliberately avoid someone or something SPREAD v to extend some information from one person to another which may not be true RUMOURS STAND BY v not act or do anything TARGET n something that you are trying to achieve, such as a total, an amount, or a time to laugh at someone and make jokes in order to have fun by embarrassing them, TEASE v either in a friendly way or in an unkind way to be able to accept something unpleasant or difficult, even though you do not like TOLERATE v it TRUST v to believe that someone is honest or will not do anything bad or wrong VICTIM n someone who has been attacked, robbed, or murdered WRONG adj not correct, and not based on true facts OTHER USEFUL EXPRESSIONS: Give somebody a bad time Take possessions Damage personal belongings Social exclusion Try to study the vocabulary by reading the definition in English. If you find it hard, translate the words into your language, but TRY IT FIRST!!!
