    How do we handle variability in the incoming TEI due to:
    Idiosyncratic encoding
    Inconsistent encoding
    TEI’s native flexibility
  • Semantic Mapping using Ontologies
    RDF uses ontologies (RDFS/OWL) to associate a piece of data with a conceptual framework:
    Example:
    xmlns:dbo=http://dbpedia.org/ontology/
    Class: dbo:populatedPlace
    Subclass: dbo:country
    Instance: “Spain”
  • Ontological definition
    Understands
    Is
    RDF “Slice”[1]
    Software
    The Semantic Map allows
    any software that can interpret RDF to work with any semantic idea that can be associated with an ontological definition.
