Ladies and gentlemen,

很荣幸今天我们获得这个荣誉。多背一公斤创立于2004年，这一年刚好也是Prix Ars设立数码艺术类别的年份。我们注意到，维基百科是这一年的获奖者。

It’s a great honor for us to win the award. 1KG More was started in 2004 when Prix Ars setup the new category of Digital Communities, and that year, Wikipedia was the winner.

维基百科是一本在线辞典。以往编写辞典的工作总是由专家来完成，因为常识告诉我们，专家往往拥有更专业的知识和更准确的判断。但维基百科颠覆了这一切，它让每个人都成为了辞典的编写者。在维基社区里，每个人都可以编辑、讨论和修改任何一个词条，并最终达成共识。通过这种方法，维基百科的词条量很快远远超过了大英百科全书，而准确率却不相上下。

Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia written collaboratively by volunteers from all around the world, which traditionally was the job of experts as they are supposed to possess greater knowledge and clearer judgment. Wikipedia, however, makes everybody the lexicographer. Anyone is welcome to edit, check or amend an entry until a consensus is reached. By very short time, Wikipedia surpassed Britannica as the biggest encyclopedia while ensuring similar veracity.

维基百科发挥了大众的智慧，完成了在以前几乎不可能完成的工作，它给我们留下了深刻的印象，我们也尝试把这种方法放到解决“人”的问题中来。

Wikipedia accomplished the mission impossible by pooling wisdom from everybody and we were quite frankly thrilled. Thus we tried to transplant their measure into our work.

我们是一群背包客。在旅行中，我们发现中国的乡村有大量的学校，他们需要物质上的支持，如文具、文体器材等等，同时，他们也需要更多的知识和信息，了解外面的世界到底发生了什么。

We are a group of backpackers. On our journey, we find in Chinese rural schools very urgent needs, either in materials as stationery or sports utilities or in information from outside world.

在中国，这些工作往往由一些专门的组织来进行。通常一个组织会服务几所或十几所学校，通过自己的员工或志愿者收集学校的需求，并为学校筹集资金、募捐图书和衣物、兴建校舍等等。

In China, these were conventionally the concerns of specific organizations. Usually one organization serves several or a dozen schools, collecting demands from schools via staff or volunteers and raise resources by themselves.

单就这些组织自身来看，他们提供的服务是非常棒的。但是，如果考虑到中国有超过四十万所乡村学校，我们就会发现单纯靠这些组织并无法解决真正的问题。

These organizations were actually providing tremendous and fabulous services. However, when taking the number of Chinese rural schools, 400,000, into consideration, we easily find out they are unable to deal with the entire situation.

我们要面对的问题是：如何服务数量庞大的中国乡村学校？如何为它们带来物质上的和知识上的帮助？

What we are facing is: how to serve such gigantic number of schools? And how to bring about help in material as well as in knowledge?

为解决这个问题，我们做了三件事。

We made 3 attempts.

首先，我们把事情变得尽可能的简单。

First, we made things as easy as possible.

我们知道，要服务这么大量的学校和学生，必须要让社会上的每一个人都参与进来。要让每个人参与，这件事必须非常容易理解，非常容易记住，也非常容易执行。

We already know that to serve such quantity of schools and students involves everybody in the society. And if we make that our goal, the program needs to be very easily understandable and executable.

于是，我们创造了“多背一公斤”这样一种新的旅行方式。每个旅行者只需要多带上一点点的文具或者书籍，就可以在旅途中探访乡村学校。同时，他还可以在学校中进行短暂的逗留，和学生进行游戏和活动，传播知识，开阔他们的视野。

That’s how we started the 1KG More voluntourism program. Each traveler adds a bit more to their backpack and brings them to the rural schools on their journey. They can also make short stays in the schools to play or talk with the students, bringing them new knowledge and perspectives.

对旅行者来说，这不仅是一种服务，同时也是一种完全不同的旅行体验。它让旅行者真正了解当地的生活，并和学校的老师和孩子们建立起长久的友谊。

To travelers, it is not merely a service but also a completely different travelling experience. It enables the travelers to understand the local life and setup long-term friendship with teachers and children.

这种方式如此有趣和有意义，它很快的旅游爱好者中流行了起来。根据我们的统计，目前已经有超过一万人多背了一公斤。

The program became popular in no time for the joy and significance it brings. We have recorded over 10,000 people joining in 1kg.

第二，除了让每个人参与进来，我们还要让每个人的知识可以共享、传播和积累。

Second, we also need to help people share, transfer and accumulate their knowledge to attract as many people as possible.

于是，我们建立了1KG.org网络社区。在社区里，我们提供了需要帮助的学校的信息。这些信息全部由我们的用户在旅行过程中收集和上传，每个人都可以更新和查询这些学校的信息。一位旅行者，只要他在出门前登录我们的社区，就可以查询到他可以到达的学校，学校的交通，以及学校的需求。这样他就可以有针对性地准备他自己的一公斤了。

We setup 1KG.org community. In the community, school information collected by our users is provided and open to everybody for update and enquiry. Travelers can log on to our community before the journey and search for schools they can reach, the traffic information and demands. They can then prepare his own 1KG based on that.

同样的，当旅行结束后，旅行者也可以把他收集到的信息发布到社区里。这样，学校的信息就会越来越多，越来越完整。

After the journey is finished, travelers can in return post the information they collected to our community. The school information may grow forever under such system.

用这种方法，我们目前已经收集到了超过450所中国乡村学校的详细信息。

Till now, we have detailed information of over 450 Chinese rural schools.

最后，我们要让每个人可以自由连结。

Last but not least, we need to help people link freely.

我们发现，很多人在参与了我们的活动后，会和当地的老师和学生建立起长久的联系和友谊，他们也希望为他们做得更多。

According to our knowledge, many people setup permanent contact with the schools after taking our program. They also hope to do more for them.

我们将鼓励这样的用户自由组织起来，建立公益小团队，同时，我们为他们提供工具、空间和资源。这样，这些团队可以独立运作，为乡村学校提供专业的服务，就像之前的专业组织做的事一样。

We encouraged our users to organize into small groups and provide them with adequate tools, space and resources. The groups then may work independently just as the professional organizations did.

通过这种方式，社区中会出现更专业的服务。并且，这种专业服务可以在社区中快速的传播和复制。

The teams can provide more professional service that is transplantable in the community.

以上就是我们设计的蓝图。

These are our blueprint.

中国全年有三亿人次到乡村旅游，如果我们能让当中哪怕百分之一的旅行者行动起来并连成网络，那我们就有了三百万个行动者。想一想，那将是一副多么壮观的景象！

300 million people travel to rural areas in China every year. If we can activate 1 percent of them and link them up, there will be 3 million volunteers. Just think about it.

这就是我们的梦想。

And this is our dream.

我们期望建立一个人人都可以参与行动的社区，让普通人做得更多，也做得更专业。

We wish to setup a community that everybody can join in to do more and do better.

我们相信，一个更美好的世界，决定权不在于少数的专家，而在于每一个像你像我一样的普通人。

We believe that a better world is not decided by a small group of experts, but by ordinary people just like you and me.
