Key Outcomes Making Cities Resilient meetings, Barcelona 2013 Urban Planning Working Group (02 April) 1.Outputs 2016: Guidance for Urban Planners on DRR and Resilience- Handbook and standards; Good practice and case studies; Curricula for Urban Planners; 2.Established Roles & Responsibilities within WG; identified potential funding opportunities 3.Agreed on Immediate Next Steps Steering Committee Meeting (03 April) 1.Advisory Panel to become Steering Committee: Terms of Reference redrafted. WG established to further refine and send it back to the members for endorsement. 2.Paper on Up-scaling and Sustainability of Campaign discussed. UNISDR to finalize, recirculate to full campaign membership. Discussion on how to make the campaign into a “global alliance” 3. Capacity development “package” and process for Making Cities Resilient presented by UNISDR-GETI, content development by UN-Habitat/UNISDR, resource people and network emerged. Work plan defined. Champions and role model cities, Campaign advocates to help identify demand and become facilitators/tutors, prmote City2City 4. Case studies presented (San Fran, Camotes Island, Philippines, Telica Association of Municipalities, Nicaragua; C2C learning Makati-Quito-Kathmandu. CIB supported webinar series- to be repeated; Salford University supported ANDROID Resilience Network (academic, focus on Europe) and city support; ADPC adapting some of their training for cities around campaign principles
  2. 2. • Partner Meeting (04-05 April) Partner and city presentation on work updates & impact (including from Barcelona as new Role Model city, and their use of the Campaign tools and ten Essentials); group work and brainstorimng ion workplan, strategy and tangibles, including from partners own work Focus: To influence the Global Frameworks with city and LG approach and leadership; to scale up cityto-city collaboration (see presentations) and reinvigorate the partnership to scale up the capacity development and implementation phases in cities of campaign goals- and application of self assessment, planning framework and other tools. Key tangibles in next phase: • 1. Campaign strategy revised (build on sustainability approach) with work plan matrix among campaign partners- to be finalized & shared (UNISDR) • 2. Making Cities Resilient Report 2015: State of the DRR in Cities and Local Government level (snapshots and analysis) discussed and agreed. The Analysis current Local HFA-LGSAT results in 120 cities undertaken and presented by SEI; this will become a working paper which will be consulted at the Global Platform (May 2013). • 3. To support the next HFA post 2015, political support for local government roles and expectations: prepare a Resilient Cities Summit 2014, UNISDR follow up and invite cities/partners for proposals (need sponsors). • 4. Capacity development and learning initiative of campaign to be scaled up and shared (UNISDR GETI supported with UN-Habitat, working title: Collaborative Learning Initiative for Cities (CLIC) • 4. Knowledge management, improved facility and network- collaborative web space next (build on existing initiatives like Barcelona sponsored, Campoaign site, and redesign of (Salford University offered help) • 5. EC invited Making Cities Resilient partners to advice EC on their 2014-2020 Resilience Strategy (including urban resilience). UNISDR and partners to make resource mobilization efforts to support base activities of campaign--turn it into an alliance and “joint programme” for resilient cities?
