  • Soviet Union Launches Sputnik I, the worlds first man made sattelite.
    1957
  • In response to Sputnik, President Eisenhower forms the Advanced Research Projects Agency or ARPA.
    Just four months after the launch of Sputnik, U.S. launches their first satellite Explorer I.
    1958
  • ARPA begins its computer network ARPANET.
    1966
  • ARPANET’s first network connection is made between computers at UCLA and Stanford.
    1969
  • Len Kleinrockinventes electronic mail or email.
    1973
  • ARPANET is shutdown after 20 years.
    1989
  • Tim Berners-Lee inventes the World Wide Web or WWW.
    1991
  • The Internet becomes available to the public.
    Early 1990s
  • Millions of people around the world using Google, Facebook, YouTube, MySpace, Bing, Yahoo, and Twitter.
