  • 2. WHEN DO PEOPLE WANT TOBECOME PHYSICALLY ACTIVE?
  • 3. People know that physical activity is important.
  • 4. Motivation waveIt’s just that most of the time, the motivation is dormant.
  • 5. Motivation waves, I argue, are caused by some sort of (sometimes subconscious)trigger, different from the trigger in B=MAT.
  • 6. Appeals to our self-image to fit cultural expectations “I need to lose weight...”
  • 7. Appeals to our guilt“I’ll run those calories off...”
  • 8. Urgent appeals to healthAfter my mother was diagnosed with cancer,she set out to become more physically active in an attempt to overhaul her health habits. “I need to change my lifestyle.”
  • 9. Social Appeals“Go running with me sometime!”
