  • Happy New Year Everyone and Thank You for Coming. My name is Sheri Kam, and I am the Vice President of the Grosse Pointe North Parent’s Club. The Parent’s Club is comprised of a diversely talented panel of parents who contribute to the positive enrichment and uphold the high standards of Grosse Pointe North High School, during and beyond our tenure.
  • I stand before you to introduce to or re-familiarize you with the strengths and benefits of Parent Club membership. It really was only last year that I was seated in this very room anticipating the curricular, sport and social information my new high schooler would be encountering in the following years. I have been impressed with the caliber and care of our students ever since. The parent club is your High School equivalent of your current PTO. It is an elected body of parents who collectively support activities that directly benefit our student’s education and safety while here at North. While it isn’t a requirement to attend monthly meeting, volunteer for, or even chair an event to be a member—we unquestionably appreciate the time, talent, and treasure of each of our members.
  • I will say this, at the Parent Club meetings you will find common-goal seeking parents who are talking among North’s administrators, advisor, teachers, and peers freely toward means of academic enrichment, student support, and betterment of our student’s surroundings. This is not to say that conformity is required, it is to say that we allow everyone to approach each of these important goals with different backgrounds to find positive contributions to these ends. This is why we will always welcome you to each and every meeting.
  • Parents Club raises money through 4 primary funding events, plus the generosity of proud community members and stakeholders such as yourselves.
  • Recently we have contributed to:
  • Signage and lighting,
  • Art Supplies, and pottery wheels
  • Technology: both software and hardware
  • Grants for the business department’s academic run student store
  • Celebrated North’s Distinguished Alumni
  • Introduced thousands of kids to the benefits of challenge day
  • Awarded Senior scholarships
  • Provided for the successful mentoring program called Freshman Assist,
  • Host the Senior Community @ The Annual Holiday Tea
  • Invite hundreds of college recruiters to Grosse Pointe annually for students to experience College Night
  • And finally-what everyone is familiar with-we publish and distribute the student directory in early November.Whew, it’s quite a list, and our direct contributions change from year to year with the needs of our teachers, classrooms, and students.
  • You as parent club members make a tremendous difference each time you give of an idea, your time, attendance at events, dues, or a combination of all the aforementioned support, so we make sure you always supported and informed .Want a sneak peak? Ask as many questions as occur to you. Like our Facebook page, and or join our newsletter mailing list. We have all of this information plus freshly baked cookies for you in the Cafeteria. Please stop by before or after your school tour.
  • Welcome to North
