  23. 23. Biofilm: Communities of microorganisms encased within an extracellular polymeric slime (EPS) matrix living on surfaces. Typically composed of many species of microorganisms, including bacteria fungi, algae and protozoa. Difficult to remove once initial adhesion occurs.
