MINUTES OF THE MEETING IN MADRID
The teachers of the Comenius project «E.U. and I» were present in the meeting in I.E.S.
Alameda de Osuna in Madrid from the 12th until the 14th May 2010.
The agenda for the meeting was:
Evaluating the work done until the moment.
Planning the second year of the project.
Organising the common blog (continued)
Deciding about the multimedia dictionary.
Writing the final report of the first year.
On the 13th May, the students participated in a quiz with questions about the countries.
As far as the first point is concerned, the teachers made an evaluation of the work done
until the moment, which was very successful. In all the countries, the students have
completed the cultural information in the blog. Then they wrote nine questions for the
quiz and chose five pictures. They read and translated the texts about two countries.
They also wrote a letter to the partner students and read/ translated the partners’ letters.
There were problems in accessing the Internet in some countries. There were also some
problems in translating the blog and the students needed a lot of help from their
teachers. The students haven’t commented the partners’ blog yet.
It was agreed that until the end of the school year the students should comment the
partners’ blog, write a second letter and paste it in the blog, prepare the final year
exhibition in some schools (other schools have a permanent exhibition), complete the
blog with pictures of the meeting in Madrid and the exhibitions, write and send the final
After this evaluation, the teachers took some decisions about the second year of the
project. In most countries, the students won’t be the same so they will start the second
year of the project by writing a letter of presentation to their partners. The second year
of the project will be dedicated to the language and the students must think about these
two questions: What words and phrases does a traveller need to know when visiting our
country? In which situations would the person need to use our language to
The teachers then chose five topics for the second part of the dictionary: greeting and
introducing someone; going to the restaurant; travelling and asking for directions, going
shopping; small talk. This last topic is free. They have also decided that each topic will
have ten to fifteen words, five phrases and one dialogue. All the vocabulary will be
written and audio recorded and the dialogues will be video recorded. The students can
also add some drawings, if they want to. The written version of words and texts must be
pasted in the blog until the meeting in Finland, which will be from 12th until16th
January 2011. The recordings must be sent in a CD to the coordinator until the end of
Then the teachers made a calendar with the tasks to be done before the meeting in
Finland. In September, the students will write a letter of introduction, take photos of the
groups and send the school calendar to all the partners. In October, they will start with
the vocabulary research (words and phrases) and illustrations (optional) and paste all the
information in the blog. In November, they will write a dialogue for each topic and
paste them in the blog. They will also write a letter about school activities. In December,
the students will audio record the words and phrases of the topics and write Christmas
Finally the teachers made some decisions about the multimedia dictionary format. The
dictionary will be a PowerPoint presentation with photos in JPG format, texts in Times
New Roman 12 characters, voices recorded MP3 and videos recorded in MP4
format. The first page will have all countries’ flags, the name of the project, the
Comenius symbol and the Slovenian poster (which was the winner in Slovakia). In the
second page there will be an oral presentation of the project with a gif image. When
people click in the country’s flag they will find two buttons: Culture and Language. The
culture part is the one which is already in the blog.
As far as communication is concerned, it was decided that the teachers’ e-mails should
be sent to everyone. The students will write an e-mail every two months and it will also
be pasted in the blog.
The teachers concluded the meeting, and signed this document with the decisions made.
