AiM maintains the philosophy that the human body gives us all the information we need to know in order to maximise the results possible in the ‘Pit Stop’. In this way the body stores information on past, present & future injuries and joint inhibitions/blockages.

    2. Introduction
      What is corrective exercise?
How do we approach it today?
What’s in your tool box? Are you looking for new tools?
      How we approach it?
      PIT STOP
      TEST CENTRE
      AWARENESS
      KNOWLEDGE
      KEYS TO THE CAR
      Why motion is the solution
Coupling: centre: 3dSlings: gait relative and feet
The body as a healer – subconscious awareness (what a tool to have – trust)
The target & Rate of change – adapting to compensation and avoiding injury
    3. Corrective Exercise?
       What is corrective exercise?
       What is functional?
       Describe dysfunctional?
At what stage can one begin corrective exercise?
    4. Traditional Approach
 Postural assessment & joint ROM
       Proximity to neutral
       Phasic / Tonic muscles?
       Stretch & Strengthen
       TVA/core function testing
 Stabilise core and mobilise limbs
       Concentric developmental exercise
    5. The Tool Box
What’s in your tool box enables you to deal with the job in hand your way
      What tools do you have?
All courses and seminars give you new tools to increase your tool box
What if all of these tools point to the same thing...
      ... Traditional corrective exercise?
What if you had access to tools that did the job quicker and more effectively?
There is a massive shift in industry awareness towards the power of using non-traditional tools...
    6. Genuine new tools
      Anatomy in Motion teaches these
non-traditional tools for your tool box
The use of non-traditional tools and traditional tools together generate a more complete picture and greater understanding
Traditional tools only cover half of the story and even less possibilities
    7. It is different... And new...
There are TWO sides to EVERY story
      Anatomy is no different
      Eccentric motion and concentric motion
      Stabilise and mobilise
      Static and dynamic
We live in a world of polar opposites
      – black, white and shades of grey in between
    8. The AiM approach
      THE PIT STOP
      TEST CENTRE
      AWARENESS
      KNOWLEDGE
      THE KEYS TO THE CAR
    9. THE PIT STOP
The Pit Stop is the time you spend being re-tuned, aligned and optimised by the mechanic (you) for optimum performance
 As the car begins to function better so it performs better, with increased efficiency and the greater the expectation of results on the track
 It is no different for your clients...
    10. THE TEST CENTRE
      The Test centre assesses:
      A) full body motion potential
      B) Gait analysis
      C) Musculo-skeletal function
Using technology designed to inform the practitioner of:
       faulty gait patterns
       foot specific assessments
       Inter relative joint problems
 The CAUSE of physical inhibitions, pain and injury
The body stores information on past, present & future injuries – we need to know about all of them!
    11. AWARENESS
Awareness does not necessarily imply understanding, just an ability to be conscious of, feel or perceive...
Are you conscious of every movement you make... Every breath you take?
Or is something else in control?
How your internal system has an awareness of it’s own – far greater than your brain...
    12. KNOWLEDGE
The body has an inate wisdom.
Every movement you make incurs a whole body response. Isolation is impossible. The whole structure is active all of the time.
Function is determined by the body’s ability to override inhibition
To keep going, fulfilling goals & day to day activities
It observes the ‘Law of Energy Conservation’
“In a system of constant mass, energy is neither created nor destroyed,
but is transformed from one form to another
      whenever work is performed.“Albert Einstein
    13. THE KEYS TO THE SECRET
The key to understanding global function in the human body is largely untaught in the fitness industry
Understanding the anatomy of the foot and it’s impact on the whole body give you the keys to unlock human potential
The foots sensory reaction to the ground is in charge of energy distribution through out the kinetic chain.
It reacts to external forces and acts on internal ones
    14. THE BIOMECHANICS
      A) Forces outside the body dictate the body’s motion potential (Gravity, ground reaction force, vibration, momentum & energy)
      B) Gravity drives us down (Action) – 9.8m/s
      C) The ground drives back up again (reaction)
      D) Vibration = shock (to be absorbed by the joint system)
      E) Momentum of Centre of Mass predicts specific joint system reaction
      F) Energy must be conserved (universal law)
    15. The other side of the story?
Anatomy in Motion’s rule of thumb:
      JOINTS ACT... MUSCLES REACT
      ...In motion...
This defines the eccentric model of anatomy
    16. InMOTION
The AiM of corrective Exercise is to target the body’s ability to reduce shock through the body when in motion
      Gravity = 9.8m/s  ca.10N
      Mass of man = 80kg
      Ground Reaction Force = 800N
The accumulative effect of joint interaction is the absorption and distribution of shock
Inhibition of the joint system means less shock absorbed
    17. ENERGY FLOW
A frequency wave (of shock) equal to 800N is thus driven up the body
Like on a motorway, we expect an even flow of traffic
The lanes of the motorway are the fascial chains that connect up through the body
Uneven distribution of the shock results in uneven flow – like a traffic jam (the accordion effect)!
      Or an accident hotspot tension
We call it a kinetic Hotspot compression
Natural flow is disrupted by inhibited joints and compensation takes place
    18. COMPENSATION
Compensation occurs when shock absorption is compromised by a lack of joint ROM
      Postural habits(internal)
      Extrinsic shock (external) – present/historic
      Poor exercise technique (external)
      Gut function (internal)
      Mental state (internal)
      WHAT IS THE CAUSE?
    19. Tension & Compression
Uneven flow generates change in the average tension of the muscle slings and fascial lines
Even flow occurs when joint function is optimised and internal and external forces are balanced
Look how this skeletal structure affects muscles attached to it
It’s not caused by long and short – long and short is a response; a reaction. And it’s instant.
What we should be looking for is the joint inhibition that caused the muscles to adapt in this way SO WE CAN INDUCE REVERSE COMPENSATION
Joints work accumulatively to attenuate shock and equally so to compensate for shock. It’s all a whole body response...
So it’s not one joint inhibition that is the cause but a collection or ‘coupled grouping’ of joints that are causing the problem
    20. GAPinMOTION
The GAP in Motion is the difference between the norm and reality.
Finding the GAP in joint motion is key to reintroducing optimal tension to the human system.
      Joints work in couples:
       when joint A does ‘x’; joint B does ‘y’
 relative to the phase of gait
       muscles adapt accordingly
Core muscles rely entirely on joint function in motion...
    21. CORRECTION
“Corrective exercise is how we tackle the coupling effect in response to shock, override the compensation effect and restore optimal joint function”
    22. RESPONSE / EFFECT
As the coupling effect is overcome and joints are realigned, muscles have to fall into line.
ALL muscles operate begin to operate at their optimum length
      Upper cross syndrome
      Lower cross syndrome
      Weak core / pelvic floor
      Pelvic and spinal alignment
      Imbalances through the feet
    23. WHY MOTION IS THE SOLUTION
      • Static
      - C of M motion limited
      • Muscles move joints
      • Joints respond
      • Conscious activation
      • Joints operate in isolation
      • No coupling effect
      • Stretch and strengthen takes time and conscious activation is forgotten
      Motion
      - C of M is mobilised
      - Joints orbit C of M
      - Muscles respond
      - Subconscious activation
      • Joints operate in couples
      • Evident in gait (motion)
      • Corrective coupling has instantaneous response
    24. TRANSFORMATIVE GAIT
Motion is best highlighted in gait
Gait is full body motion that brings alive the 3dSling systems
Gait reveals Dynamic Coupling in each phase
Gait is split into phases yet is a perfect 360° cycle – what the foot does in swing is as important as what it does on the ground
Each phase of the cycle has:
      planar dominance
      Eccentrically loads muscles
      A specific coupling effect
All corrective exercise solutions are learnt here and can be transferred to static analysis
    25. THE BODY AS A HEALER
If you cut yourself, you could watch it heal
Compensation in the body is simply a response to a cause
Injury, pain and inhibition are the result of compensation in the body
Locate the cause and introduce the following concept to your repertoire:
    26. REVERSE COMPENSATION
Instant response to having the appropriate parameters for optimal function in place
      The result of:
Subconscious awareness of joint range potential
      Improved shock distribution
Balanced Centre of Mass, Centre of pressure & Centre of gravity
Integrated foot patterns and optimal dynamic coupling
    27. 3dMOTION
Corrective Exercise comes in the form of 3dMotion specific to gait and findings born in our Test Centre
Once you know the couples that run through the body and operate in the gait cycle you are in possession of a very valuable tool for corrective exercise
    28. THE AiM (TARGET)
The Bullseye is perfection (neutral/centre/zero tension)
      It’s what we aim for...
As our centre passes further along the blue arrow, we become more and more unstable and risk injury
The cause of injury is not the distance from centre but how quickly we move along the blue arrow
    29. Conclusion
A)The body records and measure vibration (shock)
B)The role of the joint system is to distribute shock and load evenly
C)Joints work in couples relative to the gait cycle
D)Motion mobilises the centre of mass, dictating joint potential
E)Muscles simply follow the skeletal alignment and posture
      F) Reverse compensation suggests a muscle can restore optimal length instantly (providing the appropriate couples are put in place specific to gait requirements)
When was the last time you exercised
       your feet?
       Your clients feet?
 Or more importantly taught feet to subconsciously find centre?
 Here lies the key to the Secret of Human Function
Mobilising joints gives an extra dimension to your training programmes and results potential
    30. Incidentally
The next time someone suggests that spinal alignment holds the answer to the correction of human function...
...have an open mind and remember there are always two sides to every story... An alternative to consider... Then look at their feet!
