Guy Fawkes and the Bonfire Night

  1. 1. GUY FAWKES and the BONFIRE NIGHT ! By Juan R. 4º ESO A 2007-08
  2. 2. Guy Fawkes was born in York, on 13th-April of 1570, and he died in 31th-January of 1606, in a bonfire.
  3. 3. His father was a notary of York, and he served the Spanish army in Netherlands. When he returned to England, he became a conspirator, in a group run by Catesby and Percy. Fawkes´s intention was to make the parliament explode, when the members of the parliament were inside.
  4. 4. However, he was arrested on 5th-November of 1605, and he couldn´t blow up the building with the bombs . He said that he wanted to explode the Parliament because he wanted to finish with the religious persecution.
  5. 5. He refused to betray his colleages, so he was executed in the bonfire.
  6. 6. Since that moment, in England, on 5th-November the Bonfire Night is celebrated to remember that day, and the failure of the mission.
  7. 7. During the festivity, people throw fireworks and they burn a dummy that represents Guy Fawkes.
