  2. 2. Vision<br />Residents across rural and remote communities in Jordan have better access to medical services, expertise and knowledge regardless of geographical proximity. The health of residents of rural communities is improved due to sharing experiences, knowledge and access to professional advice. ICT plays an important role towards improving health standards in Jordan through maintaining sustainable communication channels to connect concerned stakeholders.<br />

  16. 16. Objectives<br />Enhance healthcare services provided to rural and remote communities<br />Support health clinics and hospitals in rural and remote areas with reliable medical advice through ICTs<br />

Objectives<br />Overcome social embarrassment associated with discussing certain sensitive health issues.<br />Specific initiatives in this project focus on the promotion of maternal health care services for women and improving the access to clinical advice for women in rural and remote areas by exploiting ICT technologies.<br />

Research Questions<br />Could ICTs contribute to the enhancement of the general health of rural and remote communities?<br />How ICTs can be effectively exploited to improve the general health of rural and remote communities by facilitating the dissemination and sharing of health information?<br />What incentives structures could be utilized to stimulate participation in ICT-based health networks (particularly participation of doctors and health practitioners)?<br />

  22. 22. Services<br />Awareness:<br />Medical experts can post awareness material in the form of text messages to large number of users. <br />Articles, audio and video material<br />
  23. 23. Services<br />Vaccination Management:<br />A java-based application concerning immunization notification system to be used by clinics in rural communities. In this module, a clinic staff can register a child and the system will automatically compute the necessary vaccinations according to the Ministry of Health recommendations. The system will issue reminders to both parents of children and the concerned clinics when a vaccination for a child is due.<br />
  24. 24. Services<br />Ask the expert:<br />Users can post medical questions as text messages using national SMS gateway. The system receives the questions, process and sends answers back when available via text message.<br />
