    • CLASSICALLY:
    • 1. Anagen phase
    • 2.Catagen phase
    • 3.Telogen phase
    • (resting)
    It contains a new phase: THE EXOGEN phase
  • 3. The hair follicle phases
  • 4. EXOGEN PHASE or hair shedding
    • Leads to the release of telogen club
    • Results in hair shedding
    • The two components of the resting phase (telogen and exogen) polpulation can be discriminated
    • Method: non-invasive approach
    • Contrast-Enhanced phototrichogram (CE-PTG) Differences between the roots

  • 6. Characteristics of hair root
    • In anagen and telogen phase :
      • Hair is firmly anchored to the hair follicle-
      • The cohesion forces are correlated with hair thickness
      • Telogen clubs retain cellular element of the outer root sheaths
    • In exogen phase :
      • hair are passively retained within the hair follicle
  • 7. Characteristics of the exogen phase
    • On any given day, every human being looses about 50-150 hairs due to the exogen phase.
    • Roughly 1% of the hair in the telogen phase falls out every day.
    • Casual levels of exogen hair is <7/cm 2
  • 8. Conclusion
    • The exogen phase is a subphase of the telogen phase, during which the hair falls out .
    • The details of the exogen mechanism are poorly understood, but it certainly influences the anagen phase.
    • Understand ing of the natural cycles of hair growth can help us to treat hair loss
