EDU 352 Foundations of Educational Technology
                                           Professor Orvie Mizzell-Bullock
                                                Date September 26, 2012
WHAT IS A FRACTION?

   • A fraction is a way to represent part of a whole

  This is a whole circle

This is half of a circle or 1/2 Fractions can be used to put things together
                                                 or take something apart!
MIXED NUMBERS

• A mixed number is a combination of a whole number and a fraction

                                                                     Smart Board
How much of the squares shown are blue?

     Use the Smart Board:
Move the squares to show 1 1/4 of a candy bar
SIMPLIFYING A FRACTION

                                         =

• Interactive games are a great way to
 learn how to simplify fraction
LEAST COMMON DENOMINATOR

The least common denominator is known as the lowest common multiple.

What is the least common denominator of

        1 5
             & =
        6 12

Tablets can be used to integrate math
                                                   in the classroom as well
IMPROPER FRACTION

An improper fraction shows the numerator is bigger than the denominator.

          8 3
                = 1
          5 5

Improper fraction to a Mixed Number

Examine the projector to obtain a better
                                            understanding of the improper fraction
RECAP:
There are many ways to teach your children while integrating technology into the classroom.
Some of the different ways have been shared with you.
 • PowerPoint animations/ video /audio
 • SmartBoard Interaction
 • Tablet Applications
 • Projector display
There are many more ways to learn as well due to technology in today's society
