Music Video Brief For my A2 Media studies I had to produce;“A promotional package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with two of the following three options” A website homepage of the band A cover for its release as part of a digipak A magazine advertisement for the digipak
Generic Conventions of a music video Music videos are used as a promotional and marketing package, to promote the sale of a song and to also create interest in the artist . Generic conventions of a music videos usually vary on the style and genre of the music video, however they usually show the artist performing the narrative of the music video with a generic style which again relates back to the genre.
Our Music video In our music video the artist is the main focus of the video as it follows the artist reminiscing about how she “was in love” and gives the audience the story through images and shows them how easily love can be broken. Throughout our research we discovered that the cinematography used within music videos are usually; medium shots, close-ups, wide angles and stedicams which we incorporated into our music video to make it as effective as possible, as the main focus is on the artist. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gy54yzkgk4mLink for I was Love music video
Our Magazine advert The magazine adverts is very simplistic yet effective, as the artist is used as the central image, which allows the audience to identify who the artist is. The magazine advert is used to give information about the artist/ album name and release date, which gives the audience all the vital information in case they want to buy the album. Our music advert has a natural feel which relates back to the genre and sounds of the music video. The use of costume also reflects the feel of the music video and the magazine advert, as its quirky yet fashionable with an indie feel.
Album Cover The album cover relates to the genre of Indie Pop through the use of the costumes and text. The use of the bright red lips and the bright pink text compliments the indie pop genre, the use of the colours also connote love.The same font is used throughout our album cover and magazine advert which compliments the house style. Just as the magazine advert, the artist is the central focus of the album cover.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? The combination of our music video, album cover and magazine advert are very effective through the use of the same house style and the theme of love. All products use the artist as the central image allowing the artist to reach out to the audience. Use of the same house style throughout
What have I learned from our audience feedback We not only showed our products to our target audience, but we also showed our products to people that wouldn’t usually be interested in that genre of music or in the “Indie Pop” culture. Which allowed us to get a varying amount of feedback from different groups of people. The feedback allowed us to see that the use of the house style was very effective, and compliments the overall style of the products.
How did we use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages ? Throughout our advanced media production we used new media technologies which enable us to create effective ancillary tasks and music video. We used an SLR camera to take the photographs for our ancillary HD Video camera to film the footage for the music video Photoshop and Picasso 3 to edit the photographs when needed Final Cut Pro was used to import and edit the footage – allowing us to use the razor tool to cut and place in special effects so it looks realistic.
