  1. 1. First automobile industry in India : Mahindra and Mahindra was founded in 1945 in Ludhiana as Mahindra & Mohammed by brothers K.C. Mahindra and J.C. Mahindra and Malik Ghulam Mohammed , and began assembly of Jeep CJ 3-a utility vehicle After India gained independence and Pakistan was formed, Mohammed emigrated to Pakistan. The company changed its name to Mahindra & Mahindra in 1948. Mahindra & Mahindra, branded on its products usually as Mahindra, produces SUVs, saloon cars, pickups, commercial vehicles, and two wheeled motorcycles. It owns assembly plants in Mainland China and the United Kingdom , and has three assembly plants in the United States. Mahindra maintains buisness relations with foreign companies like Renault , France and Navistar International, USA. Mahindra produces a wide range of vehicles including MUVs, LCVs and three wheelers. It manufactures over 20 models of cars including larger, arguably more modernized multi-utility vehicles like the Scorpio and the Bolero. It formerly had a joint venture with Ford called Ford India Private Limited to build passenger cars.
  2. 2. Tata entered the commercial vehicle sector in 1954 after forming a jointThe Tata Pr1ma concept car venture with Daimler-Benz of Germany. After years of dominating the commercial vehicle market in India, Tata Motors entered the passenger vehicle market in 1991 by launching the Tata Sierra, a multi utility vehicle.   3. 3. Auto rickshaws (often called auto) are common all over India,and provide cheap and efficient transportation. New autorickshaws run on CNG and are environmentally friendly. Typicalmileage for an Indian-made auto rickshaw is around 35kilometers per liter of petrol. They normallyrun on petrol, CNGand diesel. The seating capacity of a normal rickshaw is 4, including driver. There are also six seater autos in parts of Maharashtra. In cities and towns across India it is the backbone of city transportNormally their fare rates arecontrolled by the governmentwith traffic meters.CNG autos were distinguishablefrom the erstwhile petrol-powered autos by having a greenand yellow livery as opposed tothe earlier black and yellow.

Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) wasestablished in February 1981,though the actual productioncommenced in 1983 with the Maruti800, based on the Suzuki Alto kei carwhich at the time was the onlymodern car available in India, itsonly competitors- the HindustanAmbassador and Premier Padminiwere both around 25 years out of Maruti Suzuki Swiftdate at that point. Maruti Suzukis are sold in India and various several other countries, depending upon export orders. Models similar to Maruti Suzukis are sold by Suzuki Motor Corporation and manufactured in Pakistan and other South Asian countries. In 2010, when Hondadecided to move out of thejoint venture, Hero Groupbought the shares held byHonda. Subsequently, inAugust 2011 the companywas renamed HeroMotocorp with a newcorporate identity.
  8. 8. Bajaj Auto Limited is an Indianmotorized vehicle-producingcompany. Bajaj Auto is a part ofBajaj Group. It was founded byJamnalal Bajaj at Rajasthan in the1930s . It is based in Pune, Mumbai, with plants in Chakan(Pune), Waluj (near Aurangabad) and Pantnagar in Uttaranchal. The oldest plant at Akurdi (Pune) now houses the R&D centre Ahead. Bajaj Auto makes and exports automobiles, scooters, motorcycles and autoBajaj Auto is the worlds rickshaws.third-largest manufacturer ofmotorcycles and the second-largest in India. The company has changed its image from a scooter manufacturer to a two-wheeler manufacturer. Its product range encompasses scooterettes, scooters and motorcycles. Its growth has come in the last four years after successful introduction of models in the motorcycle segment.
  9. 9. Maruti Suzuki India Limited , commonly referred to as Maruti, is asubsidiary company of Japanese automaker Suzuki Motor Corporation. It has a market share of 37% of the Indian passenger car market as ofNovember 2012. Maruti Suzuki offers a complete range of cars fromentry level Maruti 800 and Alto, to hatchback Ritz, A-Star, Swift,Wagon-R, Estillo and sedans Dzire, SX4, in the C segment MarutiEeco, Multi Purpose vehicle Ertiga and Sports Utility vehicle GrandVitara. It was the first company in India to mass-produce and sell more than a million cars. It is largely credited for having brought in an automobile revolution to India. It is the market leader in India, and on 17 September 2007, Maruti Udyog Limited was renamed as Maruti Suzuki India Limited. The companys headquarters are on Nelson Mandela Rd, New Delhi.
