Georgia O’Keeffe was known for her use of a new style called Monumentalism. It concentrated on taking small, everyday objects and making them big , important , and bold . O’Keeffe focused mostly on nature .
O’Keeffe focused on a striking composition, with her subject matter painted at so close a perspective as to fill the entire area.
O’Keeffe also enjoyed painting landscapes. Again, natural objects in her flowing, organic, brightly-colored style.
O’Keefe lived in the southwest in New Mexico. Although she grew up in the Midwest, she was drawn to the area and purchased a huge old ranch there where she lived and painted the rest of her life. She loved wandering through the deserts and hills near her home, finding beauty all around her to paint.
Sometimes she found skulls of animals as she walked through those deserts.
