Hello! My name is Amritha and this is my proposed Technology use plan document for Gerald Elementary School located in Key west Florida. Although the school has a current Plan, I would like to take this opportunity to present a technology plan document that would address the specific needs of the school better.
An effective technology use plan would ….
It could include, but not be limited to
The planning process involves the following
The school currently does not have a Technology vision statement. Based on the schools general vision and mission statement, I have proposed the following.
Goals and objectives act as a compass guiding and helping us focus on where we need to be. The following Goals/objectives have been created to suit specific requirements of Gerald Elementary school and include Curriculum, Technology, Infrastructure and professional development components
On reading the school’s improvement plan and the current technology plan, the following would help in evaluating existing and preferred conditions .That is, a needs assessment plan which helps determine
The following is the link to a sample Needs assessment survey to determine these specific needs.
In order to improve confidence, knowledge and enthusiasm amongst teachers with regard to technology use, it is essential…1.provide teachers with abundant opportunities to become fluent in using technology to bolster instruction and help students develop higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills2. Provide Hands-on technology use at school and at home allows teachers to develop confidence in their skills and a comfort level with the technology3. Professional development that utilizes key points from adult learning theory4. Should demonstrate projects in specific curriculum areas and help teachers integrate technology into the content5. Build teacher networks so that teachers have additional opportunities to discuss the new instructional methods that technology promotes.6. Encourage teachers to participate in professional development program by providing incentives and additional support7. provide just-in-time support, assistance, and encouragement when needed
To address Evaluation needs the following would be implemented
The following are suggestions to improve current knowledge of technology
This is an example of a sample time line that could be incorporated
Encompasses Goals &
Objectives of community
Foundation for Effective technology integration
Catalyst for positive change
Why do we need a Technology Plan?
Helps Utilize all resources efficiently
Improves Professional development
Improves outcomes and increases productivity
Helps Focus on critical issues
Helps utilize external support effectively
Why does Gerald Elementary need a Tech Use plan?

Help address technology needs of the schools Diverse learners more effectively
Create Specific technology Objectives/Goals which would strengthen its focus and help meet requirements better
Maximize use of existing technology more efficiently , which would help reduce need for additional funds
Improve professional development which would increase overall student and staff performance.
Help utilize current resources to their maximum potential.

Planning Team
A committee comprising of all those who are involved and benefit from the plan would help ensure enthusiasm , dedication and long term support.

Students/Staff
External Organizations that provide support to the plan.

Planning Process
Planning Process- Getting Started

The plan needs to be embedded in or supplement the school’s comprehensive school improvement plan
A committee with representation from all essential groups needs to be chosen
The committee would be divided under five specific technology focus areas such as Student Learning (includes technology skills) ,Teacher Preparation and Delivery of Instruction , Administration / Data Management / Communication Processes , Resource Distribution and Use and Technical Support
The committee would then be assigned specific and well defined roles and an appropriate team leader would be chosen.
The committee would be oriented on various important aspects of the plan and meetings will be scheduled at convenient times

Planning Process- Vision statement
Following guidelines and incorporating the Schools vision and mission statement an appropriate vision statement would be formulated.
Planning Process- Needs Assessment
This would help assess

Student Learning (includes technology skills)
Teacher Preparation and Delivery of Instruction
Administration / Data Management / Communication Processes
Technical Support

With the help of tools such as surveys , reports, research material, outside sources, other plans etc we would be able to determine where we currently are and where we want to be.
Planning Process – Goals/Objectives

In the process of developing the vision statement, determining where we are now, and where we want to be , we would have identified the areas that are exemplary, adequate and most in need of improvement. The areas identified, as those in need of improvement, would potential goals.
Once these goals are established specific objectives would be planned that are clear, concise, measurable, adaptable to timelines and action plans and are observable.

Planning Process-Develop action plans and timelines

We would systematically identify each objective and brainstorm activities that would help master that objective. Prioritize the activities and choose several for each objective that are realistic and doable with staff and facilities.
Action plan would addressfaculty/staff training (Professional Development) as well as specific action steps integrating technology into the learning process.
Organize information in the form of a chart. For e.g.

Planning Process- Monitor and evaluate the Technology plan

This would be an ongoing process
Both formative and summative assessments would be conducted.

Vision Statement
School’s Vision and Mission statement-
VISION: Each student will be a LEADER – a Learner, an Example Setter, an Achiever and a Dreamer. We see every child as a leader in charge of his or her learning. MISSION: We are committed to working collaboratively to provide a quality learning environment in which ALL children can learn and develop to their maximum potential.
Proposed Technology Use Plan vision statement-
“Leverage the learning sciences and modern technology to create engaging, relevant, and personalized learning experiences for all learners that mirror students’ daily lives and the reality of their futures to create tomorrows leaders”
Plan Goals/Objectives

Create and maintain public/private (community) partnerships to enhance the effective access to technology during and beyond the school day.
Continue to evaluate and improve the infrastructure to enhance the learning environment and accommodate growth. This needs to be refreshed periodically.
Develop methods to utilize current resources effectively and efficiently.
Develop and deliver standards-based staff development to improve staff technology knowledge to reduce dependence on external support.
Utilize successful schools and programs as “best practice models.”

Plan Goals/ Objectives

Develop partnerships for staff development opportunities.
Provide appropriate and timely technical support and technology to achieve effective integration of educational technology.

Help students/staff understand and abide by federal, state and district laws, regulations, policies, and procedures that ensure safe and legal use of all technology
Improve Teacher/student academic achievement through the use of technology , with a target of fully integrating technology into the academic curriculum based on required National and State standards.

Needs Assessment
Determine

Current practices in integrating technology across the curriculum.
Educators’ proficiency in the use of technology .
Current educational environment and barriers in the use of technology
How effectively existing technology is being used to reduce wastage of funds on additional technology.
How often students have access to technology to support the use of 21st century skills in their learning environment.

Needs Assessment contd.
Determine

Ethical and safe use of technology by students and staff
