1. 1. What have you learned from audience feedback?
 2. 2. What is a target audience?

A target audience in marketing is a group of people that something usually an advertising campaign is aiming to appeal to they can be from a certain gender, age and martial status.

The group of society who a certain media product is specifically aimed at for example: young couples, 30 and above in males or females and then teenagers.

To understand your target audience you need to target who it is in other words you need to understand what it is your target audience are looking for and want from products. It is easy for businesses and media producers to go back on identifying target audience especially if it was not clearly identified in the beginning stages of the business and creation of the product.

 3. 3. Discussion on deciding what poster to submit

I posted both of my posters onto the blog so that I could get audience feedback and I could find out which one worked better as a professional film poster, to do this I sent an email round to my class. I got four comments back from this all saying that they preferred the second poster to the first image because the image I had taken was more obscure and sinister because of the fonts and images together.

My teacher commented however and said that he preferred the second one but for me to achieve a decent mark for it I needed to demonstrate alternatives to indicate my confidence with the software I am using and perhaps think about printing a series of posters. I think this may have also meant that I needed to be more conventional with the poster and this is something I tried to work on without just trying to suit it to specific genre poster.

The comments from luce Henderson suggested that the poster was in keeping with the horror genre and not much was mentioned about the poster that people didn’t choose but I realised it didn’t have many conventions and began to look more like a book cover than a conventional movie poster.

http://amonaghanchs.wordpress.com/2010/03/23/deciding-which-poster-to-submit/

 4. 4. Discussion on Audience feedback video1 (with luce and max)

From the questions that I asked in this video I concluded quite a lot, it appears that even though the music isn't clearly established as something from a horror genre, audiences suggests that they still knew what my genre was because of the girl running in my trailer and the darkness of my shots further on in the trailer. Max says that he feels that the genre is obvious because my shots are horror style due to the pace so im happy its still working within the genre as initially I tried to not make the shots as fast as the conventional trailer because the soundtrack along side is a slow paced song. They both said they liked my mise en scene and felt this was obvious to the genre and the choice of buildings was really well suited however the mise en scene of the characters didn’t work so well for sam and he thought that the choice of clothes fran was wearing was too modern compared to the surrounding building. I would do this differently if I had to change it and perhaps present her in slightly fragile colours keeping the jeans and using brown colours but after hearing this feedback I see what's meant by it not linking with the building and perhaps being too bright and modern.

http://amonaghanchs.wordpress.com/2010/03/29/feedback-on-trailer-video/

 5. 5. Discussion on Audience feedback video2 (luce)

This is the audio file that luce recorded for me with her discussing my trailer. She said that she felt my trailer was particularly conventional and works as a trailer and works conventionally for a normal horror movie trailer. That the music works really well along side the footage that im using on the trailer (which is good to know because the music isn't particularly conventional for a horror trailer but can work at times to be creepy and was inspired by the use of the song in the strangers movie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTR1vN0scKA ) It was also good that luce picked up on the fact that I had purposely edited my footage to make it old fashioned because this is something I subverted from the horror genre and I really wanted this to work well and luce said that she felt it worked really well so that’s achieved what I had set out to do and I will find out from others whether they feel that this has been achieved.

http://amonaghanchs.wordpress.com/2010/03/31/audience-feedback-video-2/

 6. 6. Discussion on the Audience Feedback survey

I have produced a online survey asking audiences questions on my teaser trailer here is a link to this survey which I created on freeonlinesurvey http://www.freeonlinesurveys.com/previewsurvey.asp i didnt know whether everyones school address would be read regularly enough and so I managed to create a private message on facebook to everyone from both A2 media classes this allowed me to talk to everyone a little more personal as well and knew that most people would do the survey and get back to me unfortunately I have only had four results for this as well and cant see the results due to site needed to be upgraded I will try and recreate this survey on a website that will allow me to print the results and so they can be screened shot onto here for my evaluation of the surveys otherwise I wont be learning anything from doing the survey and seeing results. I also print shot the survey whilst I was creating it so audiences would understand the way I used the website at the same time and the word document for that is on my word press blog.

 7. 7. Discussion on Audience Feedback video3 (joe)

This is my audience feedback video I did with my brother, I feel that he was a really good person to have this discussion with because he knows quite a lot about films and the film industry and hasn’t been involved in my classes etc and so could take a outside view on my trailer. He said that my trailer wasn’t very complex and so from this point it was easy to watch and worked as a trailer maybe if it had been more complex using release date etc I would have achieved more marks and would have been much more professional. Again he said the same as max and luce that it is clearly established what the genre is because of everything being dark and the shots being running shots but he also picked up on the fact I had used a mask and there was screaming. However unlike luce and max he said that the music didn’t work for him although he understood the ideas behind it and felt that it was well thought through in crossing over with the opposite genre I just felt that to really achieve that intensity of a horror movie I needed to make the music darker and so I feel now that maybe the music was something audiences either liked or didn’t because my audience feedback has contrasted with each other.

He also felt that the magazine front cover wasn’t as eye grabbing as it could have been compared to rivals such as top film empire magazine and the others that I had researched, however he felt that the colours for the poster worked better and were more like something a professional poster would be like. I don’t feel that the target audience was really established clearly to him though as he just mentioned that my magazine and poster was for anyone who liked that specific genre so perhaps he felt that the target audience of young adults wasn’t well achieved if the poster is presented as being for all ages.

http://amonaghanchs.wordpress.com/2010/04/19/audience-feedback-3/

 8. 8. Discussion on audience feedback video4

This is the audience feedback video with imogen she doesn’t take media studies or been involved in the production of my trailer and so she was completely out of the circle and would have a different view on my product. Imogen thought about it in a different way to everyone else I had filmed and she thought about the idea of teasing my audiences with clips from the film which made her want to go to see the film and she spoke specifically about the certain clips. Again the audience was clear about the genre of my trailer because of the images and the lack of lighting in the second part of the trailer she also said that she felt something was going to happen (nobody else has picked up on this) so im glad it worked and giving audiences this sense of unexpected. The music was picked up on by my audience and she felt that the trailer was ere and because it contrasts with the images it becomes quite scary. Im glad that everyone has picked up on the use of a folk slow song rather than scary noises or a scary song over the top and that most people have said that it works for them. She also said that my poster and magazine work well and the colours go well with the genre and my use of a lot of red because you immediately associate red with blood and danger. Concluding I am happy that she thought my target audience was young adults because this is who I originally aimed my target audience for and from the other videos this wasn’t really established as who they thought it was for.

http://amonaghanchs.wordpress.com/2010/04/19/audience-feedback-video-4/

 9. 9. Discussion on audience feedback video5 (sam)

This audience feedback video is one based just on my magazine front cover because I felt that I had asked too many questions on my trailer in the previous videos. I used sam again for this video and got my magazine cover up on the screen so it was easy for him to refer to it whilst it was there. Im really happy that sam noticed that the target audience of my magazine was young adults/teenagers because of the font and the main image this means that the structure and colours/photographs etc I have used have worked well in understanding the target audience in which it was intended for. I think it was quite obvious that the main image would be what attracted the audience immediately to the magazine im just glad that my audience picked up on this as well because the image having very dark eyes and the mask being quite gruesome is going to make someone look if this was presented in a shop as would the poster. Sam picked up on a lot of things that stood out and he expressed that he liked the writing that was presented on top of a black background and the sticker because it was green and stands out on top of the magazine, he also felt that he would definitely be picking up something like this if he saw it because it grabs his attention.

http://amonaghanchs.wordpress.com/2010/04/21/audience-feedback-video-5/
