1. 1. By Ashley Jameson
Project Preview
2. 2. Topic
Twitter’s function for celebrities.
Thesis: As long as the micro-blogging site Twitter remains popular among the general public, celebrities will continue to use it for a variety of reasons including but not limited to announcing appearances, self-promotion, connecting with fans, sharing news, and fundraising.
3. 3. Celebs like Twitter because…
They can verify on their profiles that that it is indeed their personal profile.
This prevents fans from impersonating celebrities and making fake profiles.
4. 4. Celebrities use Twitter to…Share a glimpse into their personal lives

Olympic athlete Apolo Anton Ohno:

Twitter provides celebs with an unmediated outlet to speak out in. Prior to micro-blogging there was no easy way for celebs to provide fans with a look into their lives.
5. 5. Promote themselves:
Comedian Chelsea Handler:
Twitter allows celebrities to notify fans of upcoming appearances they will be making.
An added bonus is that self-promotion on Twitter somehow seems less obnoxious, but rather an encouragement for support.
6. 6. Connect with fans…

Reality star Whitney Port:

By asking questions on Twitter and encouraging fans to Tweet back celebrities are able to directly communicate with and connect with her fans.
7. 7. Raise awareness and money for charity:
Actor Ashton Kutcher:
Twitter is a great outlet for fundraising.
Tweeting messages of encouragement for donations requires little effort on celebs part and at the same time has the potential to easily raise a huge amount of money and support.
