1. Make sure you understand Wikipedia’s policies and guidelines before you edit or create any articles.
This will eliminate the possibility of using Wikipedia in a way which is against it’s rules and could be damaging to your firm or client.
2. Respect the PR principles of 'trust' and 'accountability' when using Wikipedia.
By respecting these principles you are more likely to satisfy your clients and their audience.
3. Always include relevant referencing when using Wikipedia.
This ensures that your company avoids plagiarism and will prove that the information you contribute to Wikipedia is substantiated.

4. Try to incorporate images on your Wikipedia page.
Images will help engage your audience and assist in their understanding of your firm and/or client.
5. Ensure the Wikipedia entry reflects the desired brand image.
This will ensure continuity of your firm’s and client’s objectives and achievement of it’s vision.

1. Don’t edit other Wikipedia pages to benefit yourself or your organisation.
Maintaining a professional stance will separate personal and business interests and benefit your firm in the long term.
2. Don’t discriminate or slander against competitors.
Remember that the community is responsible for creating the communal intellectual property on Wikipedia. Your firm therefore needs to respect the community and other contributors.
3. Don’t disrespect the Wiki culture.
As a PR practitioner it is important to understand and respect the networks and communities underpinning the Wiki culture.

4. Don’t delete other people’s Wikipedia pages.
This could affect the representation of your firm on Wikipedia and be detrimental to the community.
5. Don’t attempt to remain anonymous on Wikipedia .
It will be more advantageous to PR and communication strategies if you identify yourself as a representative for your firm.
