The root of the word disaster comes from astrology: this implies that when the stars are in a bad position a bad event will happen.at the time of disaster various agencies both government and non- government organizations play a crucial role in preparing the soceity.home guards,civil defence, volunteeers of national service scheme, Nehru yuva kendra sangathan too play a major role at the time of crisis.this chapter helps you to understand the importance of these institutions.

THE ACTS PASSED BY THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT  The Civil Defence Act, 1968.  The Civil Defence Rules, 1968.  The Civil Defence Regulations, 1968.  The Disaster Management Act, 2005.  The Disaster Management National Executive Committee (Procedure & Allowances etc.) Rules, 2006.  The Disaster Management (National Institute of Disaster Management) Rules, 2006.  The National Institute of Disaster Management Regulations, 2006.  The Disaster Management (Annual Report of National Authority) Rules, 2006.

NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISASTIONS(NGO)  A non-governmental organization (NGO) is a legally constituted organization created by private persons or organizations with no participation or representation of any government. In the cases in which NGOs are funded totally or partially by governments, the NGO maintains its non- governmental status insofar as it excludes government representatives from membership in the organization.  Nongovernmental organizations are a heterogeneous group. A long list of acronyms has developed around the term 'NGO'.
  10. 10. NATIONAL CADET CROPS(NCC)  The National Cadet Corps (India) is the Indian military cadet corps. It is open to school and college students on voluntary basis. The National Cadet Corps in India is a voluntary organization which recruits cadets from high schools and colleges. The Cadets are given basic military training in small arms and parades. The officers and cadets have no liability for active military service. The motto of NCC is "Unity and Discipline".

THE AIMS OF NCC  To develop qualities of Character, Courage, Comradeship, Discipline, Leadership, Secular Outlook, Spirit of Adventure and the ideals of Selfless Service amongst the Youth of the Country.  To Create a Human Resource of Organized, Trained and Motivated Youth, to Provide Leadership in all Walks of life and be Always Available for the Service of the Nation.  To Provide a Suitable Environment to Motivate the Youth to Take Up a Career in the Armed Forces.
