    • Campaigns that went wrong Social media marketing campaigns deal with influential players marketing their brands on this domain. Campaigns are defined as one of the most effective tools of marketing for your product. In the present conditions every brand around us is making active and thorough use of the new media to promote their product in a way that it reaches out to the audience and gains valuable followers. When we talk about social media campaigns, they have been instrumental in creating hype for brands and generating traffic for it. Campaigns are able to help brands only when the campaign is carried out effectively, keeping in mind every minute detail and ensuring that it is reaching the right audience and is able to garner followers.
    • We always thought that campaigns have always made brands move on the path of success earning laurels for them until we came across a list of 4 social media campaigns that were a total failure. 1. WalMart This most famous American brand is a chain of retail departmental stores and warehouses, having outlets all over the world. The brand has always portrayed itself synonymous to practicality. It has been famous for providing customers with deals that have left them spell bound and have thus liked the outlet manifold. Now with its Facebook campaign, Walmart tried to change its outlook from being practical to being stylish. This was not very well accepted by the customers of the brand and the campaign received a bad response. Getting a lot of negative comments the campaign was a complete failure, which was taken as a setback by the brand managers.Though it was hurtful it made one thing clear that the brand couldn’t change its outlook now and that it should not try incorporating new adjectives with its name. 2. General Motors The automobile brand has an undoubted strong holding in the market and is a tough competitor as well. “Create your own advert”, a viral marketing campaign started by the brand was initially going well and had received a good number of entries, however in the later stages it failed. Before the brand could announce the results that Monday, SUV haters and the environmentalists created negative ads that went viral in no time giving General Motors a complete setback.
    • 3. Resident Evil Video Game The strategy behind the marketing campaign for the videogame was to send text messages to the computers and mobile phones that had downloaded this particular game. The message read something like this, “Outbreak: I’m infecting you with t-virus, my code is ******. Forward this to 60022 to get your own code and chance to win prizes. More at t-virus.co.uk.” This particular video game was not able to garner a lot of traffic via this campaign though the movie made on the similar lines was able to generate much traffic. Though it was an effective plan and it could have gone viral, some people considered it to be a serious threat and removed the game immediately from their respective gadgets. Spreading like wildfire users across the globe started thinking of it as an actual virus and alas the campaign was a failure. 4. Qantas Airlines One of Australia’s largest domestic and international airlines, Qantas twitter campaign also finds a place in the list of failed marketing campaigns. Just after grounding all of its fleets in October 2011, the company took to social media in order to manage its reputation and image in the market. With the aim of winning back the customers the PR managers of the firm started a Twitter campaign where Twitter users had to share their ideal luxury flying experiences. Hashtag was also created to trend the topic (#QantasLuxury) and make the campaign a success.
    • 5. Mc Donalds One of the social media campaigns launched by Mc Donalds on Twitter proved to provide no benefits to the brand. In this the users were supposed to share their ‘Happy Meals’ experience with the brand on Twitter. The campaign got a viral response only with the difference that the comments box was flooded with horror and scary stories. The campaign could not fulfill the purpose for which it was conducted. A lesson well learnt by the brand, social media is spontaneous and things can take unexpected shapes at any time so it is better to be always ready. But as the odds would have it, the campaign backfired at the company itself. Irate customers took out their frustration and anger by making jokes at the airlines expense. The company received a lot of bad name in this respect. Visit: http://www.socialappshq.com/blog/2013/09/03/benefits-of-pinterest-marketing/ http://www.socialappshq.com/
