    • Disadvantages
      • Same-time requirement
      • Multi-tasking for instructors
    • Advantages
      • Real-time interaction offers spontaneity, more like f2f classrooms than podcasts
      • Q&A sessions
      • Bring in guest lecturers
      • Student presentations
      • Students generally feel like part of a community, less isolated
  • 3. How you can use a live session in your course
    • Lecture + Q&A
    • References course: demonstrate searching in real-time
    • Storytelling course: student performance
    • Small groups: split students into separate meeting rooms for timed small group discussion
    • Pre-record create screen captures with Camtasia, then talk them through the process as they watch step-by-step
    • Podcast lectures, use live time for everything else
  • 4. Getting it Ready
    • Prepare slides, links, etc. in advance
    • Make the most of your class’s synchronous time together
    • Pre-session activity: what do you want your students to do before you meet?
    • Post-session activity: you can give them some assignment to do after the session is over
