BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ROLE & RESPONSIBILITY OF ALL PERSONNEL ON TECHNOLOGY FLOWCHART
Board of Trustees - As the district’s elected leaders, trustees represent the community as they chart the direction of educational programs and services and establish the standard by which success is measured. Responsibilities of the board also include establishing policies for operation of the district and for ensuring its financial viability. Trustees employ the superintendent, approve the budget, monitor expenditures, set the tax rate, and call bond elections.
Superintendent – Assumes executive responsibility and management for the planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of the education programs, technology, services, and facilities of the district.
Director of Technology – Plays a key role in various decision making capacities related to the technology vision of the school district.
Technology Committee –Assists in making decisions about what technology will be priority district wide as well as at the campus level.
Assistant Superintendent of Educational Programs – Oversee the Directors and ensures the implementation of technology.
Director of Curriculum – Works with Principals, Assistant Principals, Counselors, Librarians as well as curriculum coordinators to assist them in implementing strategies, including technology to ensure the success of our students.
Technology Integration Specialist – Liaison between campus teachers/staff and the Director of Technology. Assists campus staff as needed to ensure effective implementation of new technology in the classroom.
Campus Principals –Ultimately responsible for ensuring that technology is implemented successfully at the campus level and provides access to necessary ongoing training for all staff as needed or requested.
Teachers – The critical piece to the implementation of technology in the classroom.
THE PRINCIPAL’S ROLE IN IMPLEMENTING & MONITORING TECHNOLOGY
It is the responsibility of the Principal to stay updated on the latest technology information and to make sure that technology on their campus is being implemented by the teachers. The principal has a responsibility to implement technology on their campuses has programs are implemented by the Board of Trustees under the guidance of the Director of Technology. Principals must be role models on their campus and must include technology in their campus vision and goals. The Principal is accountable to the Director of Technology, Assistant Superintendents and Superintendent for his or her student achievements making it critical for technology to be integrated. The Principal is responsibility for advising the SBDM committee and the Director of Technology on technology that is applicable for his or her campus. The Principal is also responsible for providing professional development to teachers and encouraging the teachers to implement the technology.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ACTION PLAN ACTIVITY 1 Title Activity Rationale Setting & Info Integrating Technology into Instructional Leadership and Educational Practices Teachers will learn technilogical skills that will help to integrate technology into the classrooms. This session will focus on 3 effective tools: 1.) Power Point Presentations 2.) Blogs 3.) Document Cameras Teachers that have an understanding of technology are more likely to integrate it into their classrooms. This activity will have teachers work collaboratively with peers to create a power point, blog and practice using a document camera This activity will be delivered through an online session via Jerry Smith, Technology Director, Cleburne ISD Location: Computer Lab, Date & Time: April 18, 2012 8:00 A.M.
I noted in the week three report that the STaR Chart indicated that more district wide professional development opportunities need to exist within Cleburne ISD. A Professional development activity, such as the one described above, can promote the use of technology at campuses and help to integrate technology into the Campus Improvement Plans. Instructional Leaders need to provide teachers with the time and tools necessary to integrate technology into their curriculum. Lowell Smith Middle School was classified as developing in the area of Educator Preparation and Development. Therefore, we need to implement professional development where teachers could learn basic skills needed to successfully implement technology into their classrooms. It is very important that Principals learn to implement and model technology for the success of their students on campus. Students who have the ability to create Power Points can better organize their information and have a visual outline. Administrators use Power Point presentations to conduct campus based professional development and present ideas to parents, faculty, and students. Blogs can be a place for teachers to collaborate with colleagues or students on numerous subjects. The days of overhead projectors and transparencies may be coming to an end either with Power Point Presentations or document cameras/visual presenters. A document camera is a tool that allows for students to have a more interactive classroom. The document camera will allow teachers to present three dimensional objects in a new way. The teacher will learn to display live writing or live problem solving with the document camera in this professional development session.

The data will help the district campuses in meeting technology goals set forth in the Texas Long Range Plan. Data provides school leaders with an opportunity to make adjustments to the curriculum, professional development and funding based on the needs identified by The STaR Chart and AEIS. Professional development that focus on the importance of AEIS information can help to determine the needs of the school and the revisions that may be needed to each campuses plan. The AEIS report is accessible online and can give school leaders and SBDM teams great information for improved student performance.
The final source that will be addressed in my professional staff development activity will be The Long Range Plan, 2006-2020. The Texas Long Range Plan states the significance of professional development and establishes that at least 30% of a school districts funding must be dedicated to professional development. This document gave me suggestions on how to conduct this professional development activity that would be most beneficial to all teachers. In order to stay on track with our goals at Cleburne ISD, the District and Campus Improvement plan will set goals aligned with The Long Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020.

Also, using the data that is collected from the STaR Chart is a tool that we will use in evaluating technology at the district and campus level.
Another tool for evaluating the effectiveness of technology on a campus is to conduct a survey via Surveymonkey or Zoomerang. The surveys will provide feedback on areas that teachers feel confident and areas where more technology training is needed. The Principal may also conduct a teachers satisfaction survey for each professional development activity they have teachers participate in using an online survey. Another form of monitoring that could be provided by the Principal is to have teacher’s complete a Monitoring Report on the topic of integrating technology into educational practices and instructional leadership.
The principal will monitor by taking note of the specific activities that teachers plan to incorporate in their classroom. The Principal will gather data on the use of technology in the classroom while conducting campus walk- throughs .
