    3. Purpose
      • Make method to evaluate moodle use of individual department
      • To develop a method that is that is simplistic, quantitative and repeatable with little subjectivity.
      • Provide summary of Departmental use
      • Results provide evidence which can be acted on to target improvements at departmental level.
    4. Methodology
      • Viewed some moodle pages to ideas
      • Devised a list of criteria
      • Used a binary system - quantitative
      • Column for comments- to identify anything unusual, useful or interesting - qualitative
    5. Categories
      • Category 1- Links, Course materials and Course admin.
      • Category 2- Forums, Quizzes and other interactive materials
      • Category 3- Distance learning materials like Wikis, Journals
    6. Criteria
      • Category 1- Handbook, Lecture material- Handout, Lecture material- presentations, Problem sheets, Other reading materials, Admin- timetable, Admin- Staff contact details, Assignment (E-S), web links-internal, web links- external, RSS includes.
      • Category 2- Forum-admin, Forum-L&T, lessons, quizzes, survey, text chat.
      • Category 3- wiki, journal, group tools.
    7. Overview - Economics
      • 26% penetration rate
      • Lots of resources, very little category 2 or 3.
    8. Overview - Health
      • 32% penetration rate
      • High use of wikis and journals
    9. Overview – MechEng
      • Around 26% penetration rate
      • Quite high L&T forum use
    10. Overview – Management
      • 54% penetration rate
      • Lots of uses of folders
    11. Overview - Chemistry
      • 59% penetration rate
      • High use of Quizzes and Surveys
    12. Overview - SPS
      • Around 64% penetration rate
      • Moderate use of just about everything.

    14. Classifying Wikis on Moodle – Original View
      • Individual- only participant & tutor view and edit
      • Cooperation- only 1 participant & tutor edits, many can view
      • … & Collaboration- many view and edit
      • …. & Peer Assessment- a system of quality control takes place where justification for edits may be required.
    15. Classifying Wikis of Moodle- Limitations
      • Moodle lacks tools for a good wiki, makes Peer Assessment infeasible to judge
      • Some wikis had use that could not be foreseen as a wiki use – need for “Other” class
      • Original classification is based on assumptions that are not true in general
