  1. 1. 1 StartmeupHKVenture Programme Overview The StartmeupHKVenture Programmeaims to helpinnovative and high impact ventures develop their global businesses through Hong Kong. Around 12 high potential entrepreneurs from around the world will be selected, through an open application process, to attend a four-day programme in Hong Kong. They will have the opportunity to pitch to potential investors and business partners, network with the entrepreneurial and business communities, obtain expert advice from business leaders, and attend leading design, innovation and technology events in Hong Kong. Three outstandingentrepreneurs will be further selected from the 12 finalists to receive the 2013 StartmeupHK VentureGrand Awards. They will win prizes including professional services support, work space, media exposure and marketing opportunities. Objectives of the StartmeupHK Venture Programme To support the growth of high impact businesses on a global scale by providing them with access to financial, intellectual and social capital To attract more innovative and entrepreneurial talent to Hong Kong and to facilitate their collaboration with local entrepreneurs To propel the development of Hong Kong as an entrepreneurship and innovation hub, contributing to the development of a more prosperous economy and society Entry Criteria The StartmeupHK Venture Programme will be open to applications from founders of ventures established in Hong Kong and around the worldwith preference given to those that: Run an innovative, scalable and sustainable business Are early to growth stage businesses Aim to develop business globally with either a presence in Hong Kong or the interest in establishing or expanding an office in Hong Kong over the next few years Demonstrate positive economic, social and/or environmental impact Target Sectors TheStartmeupHKProgrammetargets entrepreneurs with innovative solutions in the following areas: Concept Prototype Early Revenue Breakeven Profit Growth target ventures
  2. 2. 2 Creative industries Green businesses e.g. energy efficiency, cleantech, waste management, water treatment, green consumer products and other sustainable technologies Medical and health devices and technologies ICT and other technologies that can enhance connectivity, productivity, knowledge sharing, citizen empowerment and quality of life Assessment Criteria The Team (30%): vision, knowledge, experience, complementary skills and personalities The Value Proposition (30%): the scale of the problem/opportunity, the effectiveness of the solution and the impact The Business Model (30%): viability, sustainability and scalability of the business model Benefits to Hong Kong (10%): knowledge and skills, job creation, social and environmental value etc Process The StartmeupHK Venture Programme will be open to applications from 9 July – 26 August 2013. Entrants will be required to submit an online application. An assessment panel comprising angel investors, venture capitalists,family offices and Ernst & Young representatives will be formed to shortlist 20 entrants for interviews towards the end of September. The 12 finalists will be invited to attend a four-day programme in Hong Kong. For finalists that are not based in Hong Kong, they will be provided with economy class travel and five-nights’ accommodation. StartmeupHKVenture Programme The 12 StartmeupHKVenture Programme finalists will attend a four-day programme in Hong Kong in the first week of December, participating in events organised by InvestHK and other “Hong Kong Inc” members. The 12 finalists will be invited to pitch at the Forum. A high level panel of judges, together with the audience, will vote on the three outstanding StartmeupHK Venture Grand Award Winners. The judges will also become mentors to the winners. Benefits tothe StartmeupHKVenture Grand Award Winners The StartmeupHKVenture Grand Award Winners will be entitled to the following benefits worth over US$300,000: professional services from leading accounting (Baker Tilly), legal (Edwards Wildman), design, brand strategy(Start JG) and managed hosting(Softlayer) firms in Hong Kong advisory and support services from Hong Kong Productivity Council, Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks and Cyberport (for relevant startups only) one year of free work space or retail spacein Hong Kong free exhibition at the 2014 Innovation Design Technology Expo media exposure opportunities business incorporation and trademark application services in Hong Kong The Asia Case Research Centre of the University of Hong Kong will be invited to produce case studies on the Grand Award Winners.
