1. My Kids Have Gmail... Now What??
Management Tips:
Students learn quickly how to share and communicate with
the iPad, so now that they have access to Gmail new
parameters may need to be put into place.
● Help! My mailbox overflow-eth! :) Adding a rule to your email
account that sends all student emails to a folder will help with this problem. To
set up a rule, use the steps here: http://goo.gl/FnIZHy
● This may be a time to revisit or add rules for use. This Pinterest board may
spark some ideas for you: https://www.pinterest.com/explore/ipad-rules/

● Now that student accounts are set up, they have access to their Google Drive
and can begin to save and share items there. Have students save and share via
Drive whenever possible.Files stored in Drive are more easily found and
accessed than email files.
Integration Ideas:
Being able to share is great when managed well! Below are some ideas for appropriate
student sharing via Gmail / Google Drive:
● Share work with parents, such as: journal entries in google docs, educreations
videos, photos of themselves working throughout the day, etc.
● Share work and documents with teachers
● Share with parents about their day
● Email the teacher if they need to share in a private manner
● Email students in other classes as pen pals (across the hall, across town, or
across the nation)
● Ideas for Going further:
○ Contacting and interviewing experts (example- emails to the mayor,
emails to a chamber of commerce in a city you are studying, emails to
favorite authors, etc.)
○ Use the web to find 2-3 professionals in a career that interests the student
and their email addresses. Have the student write up a formal email
introducing themselves and explaining that they would like to interview the
expert about their job. Once the student has identified 1-2 professionals to
interview, have them send along a set of questions to be answered and ask for
a few pictures of them at work. Turn the interview into a career presentation
for the class using the information and visuals gathered. Tip: have the student
carbon copy the teacher and a parent on all correspondence.
