The world of prayer has different VALUE altogether. Speed vs. trust (or back to ‘nature’ – in some ways, prayer is the most natural thing What I can know vs. whom I have faith in Prayers ushers us into the mysterious, reminding us that there is still much that we don’t yet know, much that we haven’t mastered, can barely comprehend. Prayer is like the Cross – to this day, nobody knows what happened. The world of prayer is one which defies “direct knowledge”, in which the key demand is humility and dependence on God. Prayer urges us to STOP seeking for 100% knowledge, stop “figuring it all out” and just do it. We can’t bottle up prayerand categorise its “SUCCESS”.
The knowledge involved in prayer is like the knowledge involved in Love. If you ‘force’ it, you’ll get into trouble
As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning . When Moses' hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. (EXODUS 17:11-12)
The world of prayer does not “honour” the world of…

Knowledge

Speed

Technology

Money

Success

Politics / Power

Basically, the world of prayer is so UNLIKE our world…
“ Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.Love never fails.” 1Cor 13:4-8
Exercise a metaphor for Prayer?

Ad-hoc and occasional workouts won’t produce results

A great body and health requires consistency, perseverance, healthy eating, discipline, waiting, etc.

If we complain that “prayer doesn’t work”, do we sound like those who have no discipline with their gym-time and diet YET who declare that “exercise doesn’t work”?!

“ I have so much to do today that I should spend the first three hours in prayer.” MARTIN LUTHER
