Living a Spirit-Filled Life Ephesians 5:1521

Eph. 5 (ESV) Look carefully then how you walk, not 15 as unwise but as wise, 16making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

Eph. 5 (ESV) 18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, 19addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

Verse 15: Examine your lives – “look carefully then how you walk”

Verse 16: Live fruitfully – “because the days are evil”

Verse 17: Do not be live self-centred lives (“foolishly”) but God-centred lives (“will of the Lord”)

Verse 18a: Do not surrender yourself and wallow in (“wine”) self-centred pleasures – define not your lives with the magnitude and availability of pleasures in life – some people live for pleasures alone.

Verse 18b: A command: “Be filled with the Spirit.”

The Spirit-Filled Life looks like this: 1. We point each other back towards God. 2. We look at our lives and see the grace of God in everything and learn gratefulness.

The Spirit-Filled Life looks like this: 1. We point each other back towards God. 2. We look at our lives and see the grace of God in everything and learn gratefulness. 3. We look at each other and see God’s worth – we then learn to trust the brother. For in trusting the brother we learn how to trust in God.
